I know there are numerous threads out there for how to customize your AES controller with a Sanwa stick...blah...blah. At this point, what would be a good stick to get if I was to replace it my original AES controller stick with the least amount of extra work. Specific stick models and any other suggestions are welcome :)

Seimitsu LS-33 are smaller than the standard LS-32 and Sanwa sticks. A smaller stick may require less work.

For the life of me, I can't find any reseller of seimitsu ls 33s anywhere in the USA. Does anyone know where to buy these?

Honestly, I think the stock stick is fine. It's just needs to be rejuvenated with a new spring, switches and lube.

I agree. But this is for a NGX controller conversion I'm working on. The stock stick in those is simply horrible. Any idea if the seimitsu ls33 will fit in that casing without a lot of extra work?

The plastic in the NGX stick is pretty weak compared to the original Neo stick, I wouldn't put that kind of stress on the plastic.

You could always swap in one from an original Neo stick.

Word! But since I'm gutting the NGX completely, I'd line to know if the mod is possible with the seimitsu ls33? I feel like making something beautiful out of something ugly.

well, I guess you might be one of the first to do what you're planning, so you will have to figure out quite a lot of it yourself. Take pictures of what you're doing and post a documentation of what you did and how it turned out here, if anyone else wants to give it a go that will help.

as for more info on a lot of sticks you can surf over to slagcoin.

What would you recommend as far as a new spring and switches for an AES controller, James?

If your stock switches are still working then you just need to lube the stick. As for the spring it all depends on your feel. Some say the spring is a little loose while others say it's a nice balance.

I have LS33 in one my AES sticks for 4 way games (think pac-man). You need to front mount LS33 stick (from top) and dremel down the joystick post on the bottom to fit. Also dremel down the two plastic risers underneath the stick on the bottom. Stock AES is better, with smaller / faster throws for 8 way games (like all the NG ones). Just rebuild and lube.

How did you secure the joystick on the front mount? What kind of bolt and nut should I use with it? Anything in particular you could recommend. I know this mod implies a little bit of elbow grease, so I'd like to know the specifics from your own experience mounting the LS33s. Thanks!

I drilled 4 holes in the top corners that matches the controllers steel mounting plate and used NB-4-15 bolt and FN-4 nut to secure. You will need to "form" the mounting plate as the AES controller top is not flat. The bolts and nuts are the type one would find on an Sega Astro City control panel. I can provide pic if you want. Do you have NGX stick or AES stick? Original AES stick is much better than LS-33.

sells the bolt and nut and the LS-33.

I thought the only issue with the NGX stick besides the crap plastic was the microswitches used. Couldn't you just replace the microswitches?

When rebuilding I tend to use Seimitsu PS-14-D-N (24mm) buttons. Just dremel the middle two buttons so they fit flush. I also like the LB-30 (30mm) balltop as 35mm seems a little to big. 30mm is same size as original AES stick.

Thanks for the detailed info. I have guts and parts from both AES and NGX...gonna try the mod and see if I like. It's worth a shot! If you could post some pictures of what your stick looks like inside and outside with the LS33s that'd be great! Thanks again.

I never had an issue with the Traditional Arcade stick however I mostly use the MAS Arcade stick and of course my Big Red. Consequently my AES sticks are damn near mint condition and have Zero Logo fade, one doesn't even have a cracked ball. My MAS arcade stick is a war horse with rust on the metal screws from sweat.

Get a MAS arcade stick, ain't nothing better.

yellow pencil shows where the the bottom needs to be cut to provide clearance for LS-33 metal post. cut the base very slow. use white out on bottom of the post to mark the spots that still hit after you start the cut.

Also make sure to cut down the metal post on the bottom, make sure e-ring can still clip in

Very nice, how deep is the LS33 from plate to the bottom of the shaft?

36.1mm (1.42 inches) from top of mounting plate to bottom of shaft.

If anyone does this please make sure to bend the LS-33 1.6mm thick metal mounting plate using tools (hammer, vise, etc) to the shape of the NG controller top, don't expect the 4 bolts in the top plastic to do this for you. They will not and you will crack the top case of the NG controller. The 4 bolts are there to secure it in place, not to bend the metal. Also the 4 bolts don''t need to be incredibility tight to securely hold the LS-33 stick in place. A little more than finger tight is all you need.

Its best to form the mounting plate while its removed from the stick so you don't damage anything.

The dust cover is on the top of the NG controller vs. stock stick having it below due to the height issues.

I checked the other Seimitsu sticks and the LS-33 has the shortest shaft depth under the mounting plate.
