Neo Candy 29 stick bad for fighters?

My Super Neo Candy 29 just delivered today. I noticed the ball stick controllers have quite notchy movements unlike my standing MVS cab's smooth rotation stick. Playing fighting games on my Neo Candy I have a hard time making my characters jump or crouch. Any Neo Candy owners share the same feelings?

Well you gotta get used to ball sticks, they dont have as wide an area of motion as US sticks.

Mainley cause japanese people have smaller hands. If you wanna replace em get Happ Competitions for fighters, Ultimates for action games.

I can use the ball sticks, but I cant play at my best with them.

Ok, I just ordered 2 competition sticks from Happs. It's too fraustrating not being able to pull off moves at will in KOF and SS.

You are probably going to run into some problem installing those USA sticks into your Japanese machine. The mount pattern for the Japanese sticks is way different than those of USA cabinets.

Go to www.arcade4home.com and see how this guy mounted his sticks into his Capcom Impress Cabinet. He did a really good job.

I think you have to drill new holes in your joysticks in order for them to fit right. I plan on doing this very thing to my Mini Neo Cabinet.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Ugh! With thorough testing today, I think my Candy 29 sticks are only 4 way instead of 8 way! No wonder I can't do any moves in fighter games! Is this right? I thought Candy cabs all came with 8 way sticks? are there tests to make sure mine are 8 way?

Anyone else got only 4 way sticks in their Candy 29?

I am always amazed at people being thrown by these types of sticks. The corners are so INCREDIBLY useful that to hear complaints just dumbfounds me.

Have you ever missed a down/back (low) block because the amorphous "circle" of the particular stick you were using didn't have both the "down" and "back" switches engaged? I have. And the thing is, almost every stick is slightly different. With the "corners" present, down/back is a notch you can hit very solidly and hold. Same for the forward or backward jump.

You want to jump in? Wham, hit the up forward corner and you are absolutely gonna jump in. Not straight up, not walking forward but jumping up+forward, like you want. No way you can miss it. Can you reliably hit Andy's launching kick, handspring thingy in the older FF's without having corners to hit? I can't. At least not reliably in the heeat of a fight.

I think that's why the Neo home sticks are so good. They essentially have a square in which one can move the stick that allows for INCREDIBLE precision.

Anyway, juts my two cents. I just can't imagine that the ease with which diagonals are achieved with this type of configuration could in any way be seen as a burden.

EDIT:

In response to your directional question, I don't think you can get 4 way sticks. If you are hitting the diagonal, you are by default engaging two switches. And besides, ALL the KoF's in Japan are on Candies. I seriously doubt that all of Japan is playing KoF and MOTW and whatever else with only four directions.

If you have an MVS board, is the test button working? There is a joystick and button test that is built in to it tha can show you which switches are engaged. That way you can know if a diagonal is engaging two switches as it should be. You'll have your answer.

Ok, this is really stupid...

I tried the hardware test and indeed I was not able to activate both direction switches at the same time (meaning no diagnals)

So I opened the control panel. I saw there were adjustable templates for the joysticks. DUH! They were set to use 4 way only. So I adjusted the template for full 8 way directions and everything is all fine now.

SWEET! Didn't even know there were templates. Now I understand what you meant. There was a gate on there, like the shifter gate on a Ferrari. Interesting.

Well, glad you found your answer!

Right, there is a plastic template piece held on by 2 screws limiting the movements of the stick. Appearantly I can set the stick using the template to move only in 4 ways, blocking off the diagnals.

I only had my Super Neo 29 for 2 days.. so far I've learned lots of things that are quite different than the US MVS cabs.
