Vinyl dye comes in a spray form, makes it easy. The best part about the vinyl dye vs paint is that the vinyl dye wears ten times better. Spray paint under your hands on the cp always wears off and feels like shit.

Ived used vinyl dye on two cabs so far and the results are far better then I ever got out of spray paint:

Oh and finish/sheen wise Ive found that it comes out pretty flat unless you put it on real thick.

By the way the wiring on yours came out great. Thats one of the reasons I bought this cab back, it has super clean untouched original wiring also. I especially love the jamma connector on these neo cabs but really all the connectors are nice.

My cp was just about as rusty as yours was too, the shade you painted yours looks a little closer then mine.

did you mention that you had already painted yours? Try the vinyl dye on a small unnoticeable part of the cab first. The vinyl dye had some bad reaction to some of the spray paint Ive tried it over. I got some crazing/cracking but just sanded it down and re applied till it came out smooth. Real thin coats with plenty of cure time in between helped with the reaction too.

Dupli-color was the best reviewed brand I looked at, you can get it at any automotive store.

I think they are really close to each other on the control panel color.maybe it was the flash or something
But what really matters is that both are cabs are really clean:

Yes, I just painted it this past Saturday!! I was thinking of testing the vinyl on a small area before full application. Sanding down is an option if it cracks but I'm not sure I'd want to go through that effort at this point.

I did not paint the CP, only the monitor ABS frame and marquee frame. I used Rust-Oleum Gloss Protecive Enamel (white). After it cured, I used Miniwax Polycrylic Spray (clear, water based) for added protection. I'm guessing now there'll be a different reaction between the vinyl spray and Polycrylic.

I noticed you used Duplicolor and the reviews do look solid. What about the Rust-Oleum "Speciality Vinyl" equivalent?

I'll post a photo of the job tonight in this thread to see what you guys think and/or if it's even worth it in my case to go the vinyl route at this point.

Here's the photos! I was going to post the results of the job in a new thread. We should have a dedicated thread or some place offsite to store these neo cab restores w/pictures for reference/success stories with products used, pros/cons.

As you can tell, it's damn yellow. The gentlemen I purchased from (nice guy) thought this was normal My 1st inclination was to RetrObright. But after research I discovered from others it's not a permanent solution. I don't want to be dealing with re-applications. Other options were to use Kyrlon Fusion or Gloss Enamel. I couldn't find info/cab pics of the applied Vinyl Dye in my research. So I ending up going with Enamel, and applying the Polycrylic.

The cab wil be fine the way you paint it.i did a astro city the same way about 2 1/2 years ago.sold it to one of my friends
And still looks brand new
The only difference when you vinyl DYE is that it has a different feel to it.it feels more natural and more smooth
That's all.and of course in my opinion

Thank Arcade! I only applied one coat. Two coats probably would've made it more smooth with extra gloss/shine.

That turned out great. Looks like the consensus is vinyl dye is the way to go. Haven't heard any negatives yet. Great job.

Necro bump. Cab still looks great after the restoration. No 'yellowing' so I'm good
