Neo 29 Modding/Marquee Question (now with pics!)

I just got my Neo 29 yesterday and I'm stoked! :) It's going to need some lovin' to get it back in shape (spider webs in the CP = bad), but I'll post a bunch of useful pictures. Has anyone tried drilling through the Neo 29 cp? I remember someone posted about how they were going to try, but there wasn't enough room. It seems to me there's plenty of room for another row of 3 buttons. If it's absolutely impossible to drill through it, I'll try and do up a panel in autocad and get a machine shop around here to cut it.

Also, does anyone have a high res (~300 dpi) scan of the Shock Troopers 2nd squadron mini marquee? I can't seem to find it anywhere (there's a little scan of it, but that one is like 92 dpi). It would be cool to add to the online lib of mini marquees. :)

Congrats on your new toy!
My Candy has a second row of 3 buttons, and I play Street Fighter on it regularly.

hey man, I added buttons to my Egret 2 CP and assuming it is the same or similar 10 gauge steel material, you can do this no problem. It is kind of an ass pain but it would take far less time and probably be cheaper then having one fabricated or ordering it from riverservice.

You need to buy a 30 mm hole punch. Basically just a bolt with a 30mm die on one end, turning the lug nut forces the die through the metal leaving you with nice, clean (usually) holes. I had a hell of a time finding a 30mm since we do not use the metric system but I lucked out and a member referred me to mouser electronics (www.mouser.com). Buy that 30mm hole punch and then buy a 10mm drill but. I couldnt find 10mm so I settled on a 9.745 (i think) from home depot and it worked fine. Bring the bolt into home depot and have one of the workers check for fits. They have a little metal sheet with carious size holes on it so you can find one that fits before buying it and discovering half way through it doesnt work. Basically just measure out your holes on the underside of the CP, mark the center, drill your pilot hole and slip the bolt through. its important though to put the die (cutter) on the top (graphics) side of your CP, that way when it punches through if it leaves a little bit of curled edges, they will be curving down and not prevent your buttons from laying flush with the CP. Make sense? Other then that its just manpower, the first couple are kind of easy but by the time you are at 4 and 5 it will be alot of muscle work, so you might consider buying 2 dies if you can afford it. Hope that helps man, let me know if you need the exact part number as I think I have it written down somewhere. Good luck and be sure to post some pics of that new machine of yours.

My neo candy has a second row of 3 buttons. I didn't drill them myself, but I'm sure they aren't factory. I can't imagine the Cp's being much different, yours might be a little wider because of the larger screen size, but I'd bet they are made of the same materials. Hell afaik they even have the same artwork.

Where do you plan on drilling the buttons? Personally I would prefer mine under ABC, but they were drilled under BCD. Its not too bad, I would just prefer the extra button on the right instead of the left. Once I turn the screen back and start doing Neo Geo+Street Fighter IIX in it, I'm probably gonna have to rewire the buttons every time I switch. :(

There's actually a Seimitsu 6 button CP for the Neocandy line, but yeah, no 7 button layouts. The panel actually looks to be aluminum (seems too light to be steel). I was worried about the hole punches denting something as malleable as aluminum. Will it be ok?

I was planning on putting the second row of 3 buttons under the B button, if only because there's no room to punch a hole under the A button (you'll hit a screw mount on the bottom side). It does require a little rewiring whenever you want to switch, but it beats paying the $250 you'll have to dish out for the Seimitsu CP (http://www.seimitsu.co.jp/oemcontrolpanel/index.htm).

I'll post some pics here later tonight (when I get back home). To the neocandy 29 owners, could I ask a favor of you and ask for some measurements? Can you make 3 measurements of your control panel? 1)Along the bottom 2)the shorter part along the top and 3) the distance from the side to where it starts to slope up toward the top part. I'll try to post similar measurements here (I need to get a metric tape measure).

The only factory drilled panels other than 4 button are 7 button (4 on top, and 3 on bottom). You can always plug the 4th button on the top row for a street fighter setup.

Seimitsu sells them, brand new in the box populated with buttons and wire harnesses for about $175 before shipping. Contact Per at www.akihabarashop.com, he can order them for you.
