I know what you mean but it sounds like you don't care if the game is totally rewritten to be something it never was. I want it in it's purest form. Kinda like if we all had the original proto roms for ToTc then NCI offered to finish the game, some would buy it while others wouldn't.
Nah, I'm with you on this. To be clear, would you rather the game stay buried than take a chance that maybe they will release another proto unaltered? It's too early to know.

You're paying not for the current product (which is for itself HORRIBLE) but just for the promise of new protos to be unveiled ?
at this rate you're justify them for playing this milky game.

If i was NCI, reading your words, i will keep to publish ton of shit like TOTC is,
nobody care about the game, it has to be written AES on it right?

They should insert the proto code (just like it is) in the cart and then add also the "arrange version"

This way everybody would be happy: those who want the proto just like it is, pure and unaltered, and those who wants to play a finished/polished game

They should have done this for TotC as well

Oh, come on, man. It's already Apr. 2nd and NCI didn't even come up with a funny video. They've missed the boat. XD

No. I am not hoping for another ToTC. I am talking about real unreleased games here. Not homebrew shit. Right now NCI is the best chance of seeing more protos released in the future. I am happy to see any of them come to light. So far it has only been Bang2 Busters, but I think there will be more.

I understand that some of us feel burned by Totc. Personally, I don't feel burned, but I was not very happy either. I would say I was indifferent to it. I won't play it very much, but I like knowing I have it and I don't care to sell it nor feel the need to get my money back. However, I will more then happily accept their offer to give discounts & compensations for future N.C.I. releases to those of us who purchased the game.

The truth is, anyone who bought the game that does not feel the same, or feels they were burned, has the ability to sell the game on ebay or privately and will surely be able to find a buyer and therefore get most, if not all, of their money back. I think N.C.I. knows this as well, and hence why they have not felt too concerned about the issue.

However, in regards to future projects, (Q.P. , Warlocks, Lost Star, etc.) as I said before, I don't think we need to be concerned about having a "repeat" of what happened with Totc. I sincerely doubt that something like that will ever happen again. I agree that at this moment, N.C.I. is indeed our top source for locating, hunting down, and releasing these games. Don't let what happened with Totc negate what happened with Bang 2 Busters. You have to have a little bit of faith mixed in with your hope in order to get the true emotion from these games.

Do you think NCI realizes how much they screwed up with TOTC?
I wouldn't be so sure this won't happen again if they don't realize how unacceptable ToTC was as an proclaimed proto release.

Well, Bang Bang Busters was handled well, and TOTC handled horribly, so we've got a 50/50 chance.

I wonder if they can find someone who actually worked on the development of WotF. Might be the difference between success and failure.

They really need to get people who know the hardware, the quality of ToTC made me shudder. Btw did anyone else notice Taitos 'bust a move' graphics are stored in ToTC tiles? Another mistake thats well.. Worse than the TOTC NeoGeo splash screen creation.

What? does it means that they borrowed code from that game? TotC was made in a hurry, that's clear. But they've learnt from their mistakes with that kinda discount on future releases. If they keep failing as with TotC and adding discounts, the future releases would be for free. LOL

I don't want to waste time looking. I just know they used Puzzle Bobble S ROM as the games S ROM at some point, They simply redrew the WON,LOST tiles and game font tiles. There is more than just Puzzle Bobble game logo's in there. That said they are not used in the game, the data looks to have been put into 16x16 sprite tiles and redrawn again.

It seems what SuperGun said about a change of devs midway through is right. From the looks of it I would guess it was the first devs who used the 8x8 tiles and the 2nd devs who put it all into sprites.... In fact I think the game as released does not use any 8x8 tiles, its all sprites from what I saw which is another poor choice in my view.

What it does show is that however is the first devs maybe had a better understanding of the hardware than the 2nd lot. I just wonder if their plan was to simply hack Puzzle Bobble into TotC and then pass it off as a proto and sell it to NCI (who never had proto at this point). Just a theory, but I am beginning to question if a proto of the game was even available to NCI from the start. Instead they got caught in a lie and then had a choice.... Either refund the preorders or try and complete some kind of working game.. I think they tried the 2nd and failed due to game quality, they probably no longer had the money to refund the preorders.

If they do have Warlocks its going to have to be well looked at to confirm its not another fighter hacked to look like it... There are bootleggers out there who already have good experience hacking the KOF games into new titles for example.

This.
And as mentioned before, I'm really sceptical about the fact that they found the sequel of Pulstar. A game than none has ever heard about up till now...

Is there a thread floating around here explaining what exactly is wrong with TOTC? I missed the memo...

That's because the poster got the info from p.96 of Shooting Gameside Vol.02 (released on July 3rd, 2011), in which there is an interview with the music composer Harumi Fujita. Under the list of titles she worked on, there are a number of unreleased titles including "THEY", an unreleased shmup from Yumekobo.

Since this is an interview with someone who worked on the title at the time Yumekobo was in business, needless to say it's pretty credible. Don't know if that's the actual title NCI spoke of though.
