Can't really think of any RPGs that I truly hate.

However, I was very dissapointed with FF7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2.
I do think they're alright as RPGs though.
Had Squaresoft removed the name "Final Fantasy" from their titles and called them something else, I would not have been so dissapointed.

I friggin loved the first Lunar Silver Star on SCD, and stands as one of my top 5 fav RPG's ever but Lunar 2's loading times... I played it for all of 20 minutes, 'trying' to like it... and just felt all the cumulative time me waiting for battles was a waste.

Never liked the AD&D RPG's either. And not a fan of Final Fantasy either.

My god man, what the hell are you talking about? Vagrant Story is absolutely genius. Best RPG to come out from Squaresoft in a very long time.

Walk up and just hit the enemy? You know there's a combo system in the game based on timing right? The combat system in this game is so deep, its wonderful.

He must not have played more than 5-10 mins of this game. Before you get to Lea Monde Ashley hasn't "remembered" how to do chains yet. Vagrant Story :buttrock:

Still as the subject of this thread is WORST RPG, i must add Unlimited Saga. It's incredible how limited this game is...

Word. They need to put out parts 2 and 3 badly. They could translate it and port it to ps2 or something easily, sell a lot of copies, and I wouldn't complain at all if the graphics weren't updated.

I can already see it, a game 3 pack, $40, on either the Cube, PS2 or Xbox. Would only take 1 disc on any of those systems now anyway.....

Nah, intead Sega is rereleasing the Phantasy Star series, and also the original Shinig Force games..... No love for the Saturn owners.....

I almost put Lunar 2: Eternal Blue on the SCD in place of Popful Mail, only because I got close to the end of the game, and got stuck, absolutely stuck, could do nothing except fight this one guy, Omni-Zophar?, and I could not leave to to try to level up my characters either. I must have tried many times, and so did my roommates, never got past this point. Never did finish the game, do have the PSX version sitting on the shelf to play though....

The final boss battle on the SCD version of EB was a HUGE pain in the ass, but I did it. I had a similar issue to what you were having, but I had saved my game at a point I could restore and level up from. Even leveling up to some ridiculous level made the boss that much more difficult to defeat. I think his level may have had something to do with your own level.

EB on the PSX kicks major ass. Besides the load time and the near impossible end boss, the story in EB was damn good and I enjoyed the game on both the SCD and the PSX. You should really play the PSX version.

I never understood the hate for FF8. Is it the story or magic junctioning system?

Well, frankly I used to not like it. But I had to blame it on the Brady Games' strategy guide, it confused the hell out of me, way too many screenshots, monster charts, at that point, that book was useless and they made it look beautiful as a sales pitch. My worst enemy was the junctioning system.

Then I bought this generic FF8 strategy guide from Books-A-Million, but it was excellent. It was bottom line stuff. There were no screen shots. And it went down to the bottom line about junctioning. It lists the top 10 spells in individual status ranges.

You're right, In both Silver Star Story and Erternal Blue the bosses (including the final boss) level up with you. If you hang around and power level like in a normal RPG you're going to get your ass kicked. There are two tactics used to get past this: (A) level up as little as possible by avoiding or running from random moster encounters, or (B) level up as much as possible, because the bosses stop leveling up after you reach level 49, so everything you get after that is gravy.

The only boss I had trouble with in eb was that big fat black mage that cast gravity bomb on your party all the time. I can't even how many tries that took. Man was it worth it though. Amazing game.
