So much hate for Chrono Cross??!! I loved that game, one of the reasons I broke down and got a PSOne.

Opinions are subjective thing. Some people think crap games are good and vice versa.

Also, imagine if a person has only ever played 2 RPGs, one was a much heralded masterpiece and the other was Chrono Crusade or Vagrant Story. To them, CC or VS WOULD be the worst RPG they ever played, even though many consider them good.
That's a good point. I never considered it, but yeah, hypothetically CC could be the worst rpg someone's ever played.

Opinions are subjective, but only to a point. If someone puts CC next to a game like Mystic Quest and says MQ is the better game then they are just plain wrong.

IMO of course. kekeke.

Chrono Cross is also definitely one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

The worst RPG I've ever played is probably Time Stalkers on the Dreamcast.

One of the worst would have to be Vagrant Story for the PSX. The battles were the worst. Target a part of the enemy, then walk up, hit him with some weak slash, then step back. Do this over and over again until you puke, repeat.

My god man, what the hell are you talking about? Vagrant Story is absolutely genius. Best RPG to come out from Squaresoft in a very long time.

Walk up and just hit the enemy? You know there's a combo system in the game based on timing right? The combat system in this game is so deep, its wonderful.

(ps: i also don't understand all the Chrono Cross hate, it wasn't a bad game)

Oh, I had forgotten about that. The permise was intresting but the implimentation was broken. Boring characters, too much pointless dungon crawling and no story whatsoever (Well, what little story there was played out like a paticularlly bad Star Trek TNG eppisode).

For those wondering why there is so much hate for Chrono Cross, Remember that it's standing in Chrono Trigger's enormus shadow. It will always be measured against it's much loved predesessor, and many will find it... lacking...

I don't know why Chrono Cross is hated by so many people. It's such a good RPG. The story is original, as is the battle system. Setting up the color grid, especially against tough opponents, is a lot of fun. Chrono Cross is easily in my top 3 RPGs of all time. Too many people expected another Chrono Trigger, and can't appreciate what a fine game it really is.

On it's own, Chrono Cross might be a good game. But it had BIG shoes to fill coming off of Chrono Trigger. That's why people like me can never appreciate it for what it is, that and the fact the only RPGs I'll play are FFVI and Chrono Trigger. Everything else I could care less about.

I dislike Beyond the Beyond, Saga Frontier, SoulBlazer (I know many love this game), Quest 64 (what a piece) and most of all....

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Horrible horrible game. They basically thought, "why don't we throw together a cut and paste game with no story and charge $50 for it?"

I will defend Suikoden 3 though, as well as the other Suikodens. Truly some of the best story in any RPGs and you have to love getting all 108 characters together. Suikoden 3 was great because of how the stories get played from different angles and come together.

I also disliked Final Fantasy X2. Why even bother? Incomplete gameplay and story. It just got too boring halfway through and I stopped playing.

I'm sure if I kept thinking I could come up with several others easily

Oh, and also, I agree, Final Fantasy 8 was better than 7 in my opinion. The story was really good. The characters actually looked like people rather than legos. Not to mention the fact that it is the most unique of the Final Fantasy games and not as generic.

In comparison, I do agree that Chrono Trigger was better overall than Chrono Cross, but Chrono Cross is one of those games that is just "special" for some reason, at least to me.

Popful Mail for the Sega CD.....

Nothing wrong with the story line or the game play per se, but the problem was that the game would randomly crash while playing, it would just dump. And, IIRC, Working Designs modded the game so you were 'charged' everytime you saved the game, and there were save points like most RPGs. Played this in college, and did eventually beat it, but it was annoying! Constantly retracing steps because of game crashes.

Haven't kept up with the modern RPGs to really say much else, playing through Tales of Symphonia right now, most likely Star Ocean 3 or Skies of Arcadia (Legends) will be next, unless I go old school.

Oh, Shining Force 3 sucks because Sega screwed us! They gave us part 1, but not 2 and 3. Nothing like completing a game, but being left hanging because it is only 1/3 of the story. Yeah, I have the JPN versions of 2 & 3, and the scripts....... They should have translated Grandia, like the rumor mill was squealing about.....

I love these games,

Alundra
Beyond the Beyond
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy VII
Legend of Dragoon
Legend of Legaia
Saga Frontier
Suikoden III
Vagrant Story

I love the anime intro of Suikoden III plus the music too. :buttrock: :)

Is Brainlord for the Snes any good?. :kekeke:

Alundra was sad because the priest snaped Sibil's neck
while in her sleep. :crying: She can dream while still awake. :)

I heard one sound track in Legend of Legaia that
was also in Alundra. Weird huh.

I sold my entire fledgling SNES collection at a pawn shop (before places did trades mind you) to buy Lagoon. Game was crap on a stick. Thus, my least fave RPG of all time.

*me takes a look at all the hate for FF7,8, and Chrono Cross, and chuckles.*

Panzer Dragoon Saga was better than all of those games.

Intense story, best 32-bit era soundtrack, and inventive/addictive battles.
Best cinemas too.

I believe the main complaints people would have with Suikoden 3 are:

1) Not as good as the first two. Really nothing that can be done here, unless the person never played the first two. Unfortunately, this means people might miss out on a lot of nostalgia with the returning characters.

2) They might have found the battle system to be awkward. After all, the chanting speeds are a real turn off at the beginning when a good spell takes 2 turns to cast.

3) Repetitiveness. You end up playing the first 3 chapters three times each. Sure, you get to see it from different angles, but it's more or less the same thing, with the same enemies and locations in some cases. It does get better towards the end when you're only dealing with one main character, for the most part.

PS: Nice to hear a little FF8 love being passed around. :D

Word. They need to put out parts 2 and 3 badly. They could translate it and port it to ps2 or something easily, sell a lot of copies, and I wouldn't complain at all if the graphics weren't updated.

You will find out why when you buy it. ;)
That's all I remember in the game. :kekeke:

I am going to hide in the corner for awhile now. :kekeke: :(

Another RPG I wasn't too fond of was Threads of Fate on the PSOne. Choppy graphics and lousy game play...very repetitive and very awful music :annoyed:
