Heh at least I found it more mentally stimulating than part 1.

And I had a friend that could thrash Lufia 2 like a god. If he was still living in my hometown, I'd record a superplay video of him solving those devious ass puzzles.

He probably wouldn't have much competition either.

Also Azure Dreams for the ps1 was pure crap if I remember correctly.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not the biggest fan of the genre: there are only about 3 RPGs I would actually bother playing again or recommending to others. That said, I thought that Final Fantasy V represented every RPG cliche that I loathe.

I would have to say Lagoon for the SNES.

I had to force myself to finish that game.

Final Fantasy 8

In addition to being the worst RPG i have ever played, it is almost the worst fucking game i have ever played in my entire life. I cannot stress how much i hate this title, i can not to this day believe i forced myself to play this all the way through.

After the masterpiece that was FF7 (fuck the haters) FF8 was a big dissapointment, and in general it was just a shitty game.

The worst RPG I ever played is Final Fantasy X, how can Squaresoft destroy this serie like this?! (well for me all FF 128bits are doomed, let's see with the PlayStation 3)
to my eyes the whole Draque serie are shitty too
the scenario of Star Ocean 3 turned pretty pathetic in the end

Oh damn... you played that one too? I feel your pain. I think the pain of playing that had me black out the fact that it even ever existed...

They fucked FF with FFVII. They went from substance over style (though VI had a lot of style and substance) to style over substance and decided pretty movies were more important than a good story.

I actually stopped playing FF with VII (well, Tactics is still good anyway), and stopped playing VII right after Cloud wakes up. I hated the characters, with a passion, and there was no way I was spending any more of my life wasting it on them.

Quest 64 easily.

I hope that all of you who said Chrono Cross and FFVII get an XBox dropped on your head and die.

I don't know why Chrono Cross is hated by so many people. It's such a good RPG. The story is original, as is the battle system. Setting up the color grid, especially against tough opponents, is a lot of fun. Chrono Cross is easily in my top 3 RPGs of all time. Too many people expected another Chrono Trigger, and can't appreciate what a fine game it really is.

Hmm. Never played Metal Dungeon for Xbox, but then again, I knew it was going to be horrible, so I didn't even think to pick it up.

One of the worst mistakes to happen to an RPG or RPG-themed game was a long lost Zelda game made specifically to run from CD. It was a game with Link and done in that Dragons-Lair laserdisk style of gameplay. And while that kind of arcade gameplay worked well with Don Bluth's great direction, animation, and quirky humor; the Zelda game fell quite flat and was a bad experience for any Legend of Zelda fan waiting for something Zelda-like to happen in gameplay.

I happened to have missed out on that one, and any Zelda fan I've spoken to, that has played that game, mentioned that I should forget that it ever existed. Still, it is sometimes hard to resist remembering a game that left that bad an expression on you. I mean, if you had the experience, how can you forget the awefulness of the D&D fighting game, Iron and Blood? It's just one of those games that remind you that the devil exists and that if time could take something back to the deep-place it came from, make it be that......thing. Still, I can't help but think that even that Zelda game couldn't be THAT bad.

Quest 64.

And anyone who bags on a masterpiece like cross has no taste in games.
You cannot compare it to the original trigger, as there is no way to make a sequal to that game that wont be somewhat dissapointing. Its like legend of mana, LOM is good on its own, but is shit when compared to seiken 2 or 3.

Cross really had a unique atmosphere around it.

That would have been the CD-i game. Word has it that Philip's, when negotiating for the failed SNES-CD add on, wanted access to some of Nintendo's properties. The only property molested by them was Zelda/Link and was piss poor by any standard (or so it goes, never played it myself, and seeing prices for it, why would you pay that much for shit? If anyone wants to pay $100 for shit, send me a PM and I'll happily shit in a box for you).

Nintendo had nothing to do with the games, and it shows. So you can say they don't exist as Miyamoto and no other Nintendo team messed with it.

I also don't think either of the games are considered "RPGs" as they were more like "Adventure" games; no stat building or any of that involved.

One of the worst would have to be Vagrant Story for the PSX. The battles were the worst. Target a part of the enemy, then walk up, hit him with some weak slash, then step back. Do this over and over again until you puke, repeat.

I wasn't coming from the point of view of an old-tyme rpg elitist. I was coming from the perspective of someone who hates the entire genre and was trying to invoke the ire of square-enix fanboys the world over.

There is also Hotel Mario;)

There are infact 3 CD-i Zelda games, 2 are assanine side scrollers, the third "Zelda's Adventure" is rather expensive, and allegedly at least decent.

Here is an interesting interview with Chrono Cross producer Hiromichi Tanaka. I'm sure it's old news to most - as this interview was conducted in 2000 - and there isn't a whole lot of groundbreaking info in it, but it just goes to show the mindset with which CC was developed.

I can understand how Chrono Cross let some people down, but there is no way it's the worst RPG of all time (and neither is Vagrant Story... wtf?). Let's be objective here.

Opinions are subjective thing. Some people think crap games are good and vice versa.

Also, imagine if a person has only ever played 2 RPGs, one was a much heralded masterpiece and the other was Chrono Crusade or Vagrant Story. To them, CC or VS WOULD be the worst RPG they ever played, even though many consider them good.
