Sleepaway Camp- Much better than I remember, I totally didn't pick up on the ridiculousness that often boarders on humor at times. The famous shock ending aside it's actually a solid summer camp slasher and it's also extremely self aware and almost mocks the genre. It's nothing brilliant but it was a nice surprise to revisit it and enjoy it on a different level.
Bro, have you seen The Burning?

Yeah, The Burning is excellent. Probably my favorite summer camp slasher.

Yeah, guess what? I've never seen The Room, either.
To be honest unless you watched it years ago before all the memes and hype etc. it's not worth watching. It really was something special to just stumble onto from word of mouth and go into blind but like a lot weird stuff that blew up it's been pretty much ruined.

Yeah, I'd seen a couple clips on youtube and I figured I had the gist of it.

Thing is, Disaster Artist isn't reliant on being 'in the know' about The Room, or going to cult following midnight showings, or watching it in LA the night of release.

It's reliant on Greg Sestero's book about the making of it. The wacky/weird/creepy shit about Tommy, their inexplicable friendship and Sestero's odd choices after meeting him, and still sticking with Tommy. It's a great book.

Spider-Man No Way Home was 20 different kinds of stupid:
-If the spell only brings people that know Peter Parker is Spider-Man, why does it bring Eddie Brock and Electro? Eddie has never met Peter or Spider-Man and Electro never learned his identity

-Why the hell wouldn't they just use the memory spell to wipe out the memory of Mysterio or what he said rather than erasing Peter from everyone's mind? You can't just introduce an ability like that and then not think it through. Well, I guess you can, but it just makes either all your characters look like morons or the person who wrote it look like a moron. Either way, stupid.

-Why don't Peter and Strange have a 2 minute conversation before they start using universe-altering magic? The entire conflict of this movie could've been averted just by either Peter shutting the hell up or Strange getting the spell completely correct before he started it.

-Why would forgetting about Peter's identity send them all home to begin with? For the spell to have that effect it would have to work on the entire multiverse, since the whole problem is that everyone who knows Peter's identity in the multiverse is getting pulled to the mainline MCU earth. So didn't Strange just wipe out Garfield-Spidey, Tobey-Spidey, and every other Spider-Man in the multiverse's identity from every single person in the multiverse?

-How does Peter rent an apartment, get a job, register for his classes, etc if nobody has ever heard of him? Does he have a social security number still? Birth certificate?

-They don't really explain how curing the villains of their various conditions will prevent their deaths if some of them were pulled from the instant before they died. Presumably they get sent right back where they came from, and if that's the case, Norman is just gonna get impaled by his glider and Electro is just going to get electrocuted to death. But if they are somehow sent back to a point in time where they can avoid the conflict to begin with, that changes the subsequent timelines. If Norman and Peter never fight that changes the circumstances of how Peter would've interacted with Sandman and Doc Oc later in his timeline. Same goes for the Lizard and Electro in the other movie franchise.

-Apparently everything needed to cure all these supervillains can be constructed by five people in a few hours with materials sitting around a high school chemistry lab? This is as stupid as Tony Stark building a reactor in a cave with a box of scraps.

This was seriously the dumbest movie in the MCU as far as plot goes.

Needs a bit of hand waving for sure. At this point I just expect the need to turn my brain off. Spiderverse is still the better multiverse film:

Eddie Brock knowing Peter: Watch the end credits scene in Venom 2. It is explained.

Peter/Strange having a 2 minute conversation: Strange made the same mistake Peter did - he didn't ask more questions before acting.

The other stuff - its a movie about a kid who has spider powers and a wizard. It's not Tolstoy.

The credits scene of Venom 2 has Eddie get transported to the other universe, then find out Peter's identity. Not the other way around. It makes no sense.

And yes, Strange is just as stupid as Peter. Which is dumb, since they're both supposed to be geniuses.

Obviously it's not Tolstoy but this is way, way stupider than any other movie in the franchise so far. They don't even come close to following the rules they establish themselves. Don't introduce concepts or plot devices without thinking through the implications.

The symbiote actually tells Eddie something to the effect that they have a collective memory that spans billions of universes and time. So every symbiote would know who Peter is. Who's to say another version of Venom/Eddie hadn't encountered Peter, or a version of Peter, and that maybe "that... guy" looked just like Tom Holland in another universe?

All you have to do is look at any "geniuses" in real life to know they all have HUGE blind spots. However smart they are in one area, they are lacking just as much if not more in some others. That said, you are trying to read way too much into these ultra-dumb movies.

I haven't seen No Way Home yet, but the first two movies were so stupid, I can't imagine the third could turn that around completely.

This movie is several orders of magnitude more stupid than any MCU movie before it.

The entire conflict of the movie is Strange and Peter using a memory spell to wipe Peter's identity from everyone's mind because Mysterio revealed it. Instead of just, you know, wiping out what Mysterio revealed or wiping out Mysterio himself.

Revealing that Strange has this ability pretty much makes every conflict that has taken place in the MCU since he got his powers completely pointless, since there's no reason he couldn't just wipe knowledge of the infinity stones from everyone's brain.

Also didn't mention how Peter kicks Dr Strange's ass in a universe that Strange himself controls by using.... math?

I mean Strange literally controls reality with his thoughts, but Peter did math, so there's nothing Strange can do.

I have only watched about 10 minutes of No Way Home from youtube. I read the plot on wiki. I think it would have been great to see in theaters, but I don't think it will hold up years down the road.

The only Spider-Man movie that was ever actually good was Into the Spider-Verse.

It’s certainly the best Spidey film. I enjoyed Homecoming, and the first two Toby films. Never saw the Garfield ones.

I used to watch the Spider-Man cartoon on Saturday mornings.

The Tobey films are so, so bad. If you remember them being good, hold onto those memories and never watch them again.

Some of you guys take these comic movies way too serious. Maybe it's time to stop watching them if all they do is upset you or at least adjust the standards you're holding them to.

Even with all their faults the first 2 Tobey Spiderman movies are still more enjoyable than 90% of all the other comic movies.

And need I remind you that in the last F&F movie Luda and Tyrese put rockets on a car and drove it in to outer fucking space.

Outer space.

The idea that popcorn movies are somehow exempt from having to have the basic tenets of competent filmmaking is an idea that's always bothered me. There's a difference between Transformers or the Roland Emmerich disaster porn movies and early Spielberg movies. You can make wide-audience movies that aren't retarded and you don't need to make excuses when they are.

For a long time, the Marvel movies were more the later. Sure, they used well-worn tropes, you could nitpick story beats to death (the problem with 80+ years of comic book history is that it's nearly impossible to write something that doesn't trample on some other writer's ideas about a character) and they overly relied on the audience to be excited about seeing things they know but they moved quickly, the dialogue was snappy and not painful and they had charming performances from great actors.

Lately though, the writing has taken a serious dive and many of the better actors have shuffled off. I still enjoyed No Way Home for what it was but Fami's not technically wrong. The basic structure of the story is so flimsy, it's practically transparent.

The biggest problem with newer comic movies is that they write around the scenes. They don't lead up to something big with a solid foundation anymore, they come up with something big and then fill in the minimum amount of story to place those big scenes in which usually requires the writing to be stupid and nonsensical. It's insulting to people that expect anything more than seizure inducing action scenes and "OMG I can't believe they showed up in this" moments.

On top of that you've got all the studio interference, the assembly line production and release schedule and with the huge budget and ROI risks being so high that there's not much room for creativity. There's no room for heart or real emotional investment because they have to cram in three 20 minute CG fight scenes, product placement and setup/tie in to other related movies. They all have to be linked together., that's a huge problem. Nothing stands on it's own anymore. That was cool at first but now it's just annoying and confusing.

I feel like people don't even watch a lot of these movies for actual entertainment anymore. Just to say they've seen it and nitpick everything to death and honestly I don't think they even merit that much thought. They're disposable junk for the most part.

They're also too fucking long. Seems like every one is 2-3 hours now. That's ridiculous for this kind of material, it's also exhausting to watch. I don't want to walk out of a movie theater disoriented with a headache.

The mainstream movie industry is the worst it's ever been and I don't see it getting better anytime soon as long as people keep paying for the same shit.

There's really only like 6 franchises and animated kids movies, that's fucking sad. Maybe twice a year we get something like The Green Knight or Licorice Pizza and even then you have to go to an independent theater to see them because the big theaters are playing Spiderman on 6 screens with showtimes every 15 minutes. It wasn't that long ago that we were still getting stuff like Ex Machina, Drive and Annihilation at chain theaters. The closest we've gotten in the last few years is the new Dune.
