The Demolitionist - comic book action film about a cop (Nicole Eggert) who is brought back from the dead thanks to nano-technology and then goes after the gang that "killed" her.
For many the plot outline will draw parallels with Robocop, and there are some plot beats that are similar, but these are two very different films. Firstly, there's no cybernetics involved, Eggert's character remains flesh and blood, she wears a suit that is more akin of a stealth assassin rather than an armor-plated killing machine, and she's left to fight the survivors guilt she has from the night her and her partner were killed.
Taking place in the fictional "Metro City", and the movie also incorporates anachronisms, with fifties style technology mixed with futuristic high tech.
For a film made in 30 days for $1m, it does punch above its weight. It could have done with someone having a little more range than what Eggert can provide, but I get why she's there - she's fit as fuck, and at the height of her Baywatch fame at the time the movie was produced.
Some of the action is a little sedentary - Eggert will literally burst into a room and just mow everyone down. There's also an annoying music cue that is used repeatedly.
Richard Grieco is the villain, and he's pretty good, but he's no Clarence Boddicker. There's a great supporting cast, featuring Tom Savini, Heather Langenkamp, Bruce Abbott, the recently deceased Reggie Bannister, and a cameo from Bruce Campbell.
If you've ever wanted to watch someone electrocute themselves from standing in a pool of piss, then this is the film for you.

Rewatched War of the Worlds (2005) - I had fond memories of seeing it when it came out. I must've been retarded. Some good set pieces per usual being Spielberg...but not good. The way it just sort of ends. Plus, the son magically showing up at the end (not exactly how I recall when I last saw it).

Normal- Eh, this was disappointing. Some fun gory kills but that’s about it. The plot is dumb as hell, lame humor plus it looked weird and cheap.
I read somewhere that the ending isn’t real. It’s what Dakota Fanning sees as she’s dying. Which is even more lame.

I watched the original so many times the 2005 version is an afterthought. Ignore it completely and enjoy the original.

Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist- I’ve seen this pop up on a few overlooked/hidden gems horror lists recently. Well I’d say this is even worse than Exorcist II, that one was at least really fucking weird and creative. This one just sucks. It’s not the least bit engaging, it’s slow, it’s cliche and the effects are terrible. It’s also just completely unnecessary. I’m actually surprised this got made. I honestly can’t understand what the studio saw in this, especially in 2005. How and why does this exist?

I’m not sure, I think the theatrical cut. Whichever one is currently on Prime.
From what I read Renny Harlan reshot most of the movie but that was released separately and called The Beginning and Schrader later got to go back and release a director’s cut so there are 3 versions of the movie? What a shit show.

I remember digging the Schrader version that came out like a year or two after the theatrical. But I totally get it. It's a weird one. I have the dvd, need to revisit.

Jackass 30(?)
Id only seen the first jackass movie because I liked the show back in the early aughts, and only because I was a fan of the skate videos/CKY videos that inspired it. But this one is dumb. I mean - well I guess they all are, really. But this one is supposed to be the last one they are gonna make, and it was basically a clip show with like 4 actual 'gags/stunts' in the thing. Waste of a download.

Dakota Johnson is a high end matchmaker who can’t get her own love life straight. She ends up meeting a rich playboy and running into her poor stage actor ex at the same time. Contrasts ensue.
This one was not very good. The story goes from mildly interesting to corny and cliche. Johnson continues to muddy the waters so that no one knows if she can’t act or is intentionally flat.
I’ll give it 5/10 tibias.

Disclosure Day
Spielberg is toast. This is a 1980's plot shot for a 2026 movie audience. None of it works. The people that saw this in the theater must be livid. I would have demanded a refund. I pirated it, and I'm so greatful i did.
You understand the plot early on, but there's zero reward. You get some tidbits of curiosity in the first few shots, but it's gone for the rest of the movie. You get over an hour of absolutely nothing of interest taking place all to setup some pillow fisted ending that's a worse version of his movie A.I. (2001). A.I. is a better movie on all fronts compared to this bore.
The music sounds like an AI rendition of John Williams. It feels like a cheap knock off which fits with the rest of the movie.
You have what should be an interesting cast, who give it 100%, but none of it works. I struggled with this feedback the most because it should be great, but there's nothing for them to do. You learn nothing about the interesting people, and you get truth bombs for the people that don't need it. The character building feels like it's from an HBO series, except they keep that pacing within a short movie.
I could shit on this movie all day. It's another reminder for these people to know when to retire. What a fucking waste.

RIP to Screaming Mad George. I saw his band open for GWAR once a million years ago and I'm 98% sure I saw him in at Narita when I landed in Tokyo a couple years back. An old man in pancake makeup with an assistant following with his luggage. Can't be too many of those.

Caveat- The director of Oddity and Hokum’s first feature.
An amnesiac man is hired by a very suspicious “friend” to go to a secluded house in the country and keep his mentally ill niece company. He quickly finds out that there is much more to it than that. I don’t want to give any details because it would spoil the setup. And while the setup is a bit far fetched it still works and makes you curious enough to just kind of go with it.
Once you get past how unrealistic the situation is and the movie gets going it‘s quite engaging. It’s a very small movie with a single location and only 3 characters but they really make the most of it. Right off the bat the movie has a very uneasy atmosphere and progressively builds tension and mystery. It’s a very effective little movie. The performances are all good and the location is thoroughly creepy.
I did find the ending to be a bit deflated but not enough to sour my overall enjoyment.
If you liked Oddity you’ll probably dig this but it’s not nearly as clever or polished.

Watched Masters of the Universe on Prime the other night. A few very stupid things gave me a chuckle but far more gave me an audible groan. Overall, this movie was pretty clunky. I'd heard 'unexpectedly decent' type things about it. I dunno, mostly a miss for me. Wanted more from Alison Brie, felt like they were building toward a character moment and then she just....walks off.
If looking for self-aware camp, just watch the recent-ish D&D movie instead it was far better.

What you describe for the recent motu,moive is what i think as well i also watched it recently on prime to.They really try to hard with the humor for this.I know motu was in development hell for how long it took for this movie to get made.I guess maybe a sequel could have address the issue the movie has but since it bombed in theaters that sure is not happing.

Oh man, exorcist II the heretic isn't worth anyone's time. I think there was a part of it with James Earl Jones that stood out and gave a little backstory to pazuzu that was a little bit of interest, but I have a hard time trying to watch it and don't plan on watching again.
I know there is the studio meddled exorcist prequel and the originally filmed version. There were differences, but they weren't really that good of movies. Skasgard? - was good in there. But for me it ranks higher than heretic.
Hudson Hawk - Bruce Willis heist movie that borders on comic bookish goofy humor the further you get in the movie. It's a terrible movie, but it's kind of great too, and actually it's not really terrible and kind of awesome if you walk into it as an absurd movie. Andie McDowell and Bruce click pretty well, James Coburn is always awesome and all the other side characters were comedically overboard. I have no idea how this got green lit, even at the height of Bruce's fame back then.

Private Crimes- This should probably go in the TV thread but I feel like it fits here as well. It’s a 4 part Italian miniseries from 1993 produced by and starring Edwige Fenech, directed by Sergio Martino. The series is 4 feature length episodes, totaling around 6 hours. It’s often labeled as the Italian Twin Peaks but that’s not really very accurate, though it is clearly inspired by it.
It’s Twin Peaks-like in so much as it’s about how a girls murder in a small town uncovers a lot of dirty secrets and interconnected drama hiding just below the surface. It’s more of a quirky investigative drama than anything remotely Lynchian.
Fenech plays a headstrong local newspaper reporter who takes the initiative on the investigation. Her intuition tells her there a bigger picture to what’s happening. She often works with the lead detective and the two have good chemistry together. Also her sexy redhead bff and a big fluffy white cat are often involved. Fenech is middle aged here and still a total knockout. She also gets to do considerable more real acting here than in a lot of her past roles.
The production values are pretty high and Martino‘s direction is solid. The series is also chock full of fun early 90’s fashion and interior design.
The main problem with the series is that like most Italian murder mysteries it’s very convoluted, especially at around 6 hours long. Overall though I found it pretty enjoyable even if it is a bit derivative and hard to keep track of.
Recommended for fans of Fenech, murder mysteries and 90’s made for TV stuff.
