How was Yes Man? I passed on it today when I picked up The Day the Earth Stood Still and Doubt on BD, but I'm half-tempted to grab it sometime this week, sounds like a fun little comedy. And Zooey Dechschanel is hot.

black sheep.
I've wanted to see this one for ages because of the cover.
it falls short for me, even for a b movie. maybe because it's a
new zealand film and I had a hard time taking it seriously
because of the actors accents.
but the real funny thing though is the fact that the production values are fantastic.
I mean it's a nice piece of film.
which makes sense since after watching the commentary you find out
that alot of crew was out of work production folks left over from lord of the rings
and king kong.
as a horror flick it's okay, but there's a more gore gross out factor really.
6/10

I laughed a lot during the movie. It's not going to be as funny as other Jim Carrey movies, but it's funny enough to warrant a rental.

It feels a lot like a Steve Carrel movie.

Transporter 3 - 3/5; i never expect much out of the transporter films so I'm never disappointed. Jason Statham makes us bald guys look good.

He must be filming 5 action flicks all at the same time or something, goes on break from one set then goes to the other set, 'cos if you didn't get enough of Jason Statham, he's about to satisfy your craving with Crank: High Voltage.

Premise sounds ridiculous:

Picking up immediately after he hits the ground at the end of Crank, Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) is kidnapped by a gang of Chinese medics. On an operating table, they attempt to harvest his organs. But after they remove his heart and replace it with an electronic temporary one, Chev wakes up and kills the medics. He then has to chase after the gang who has stolen his heart. At the same time, he must keep shocking himself with regular jolts of electricity to keep himself alive.

I dunno, that premise sounds only slightly stupider than the original Crank (and that was a cheesy good time, I thought. The part where he fucks his girlfriend in the middle of the street was hilarious and awesome).

I love almost all things Jason Statham, but I thought Crank was shit. I would spit on Crank 2.

I agree with you, but I would have to admit that I enjoyed Crank despite the fact that it was terrible... If that makes any sense.

It does, but it's a sentiment I cannot share. I hated Crank. Loved Death Race and Transporter 3, despite both being terrible movies.

Well yeah, that's kind of what I mean. I happened to enjoy Crank, but I would never in good conscience suggest anyone spend their own time on it. ;)

Man I'm the opposite of you guys, I love Crank and look forward to the second.

I had a hard time sitting through Transporter 3 and Death Race. I enjoy the first Transporter as well as most of Stathams other movies.

He does not star in good movies but he does star in some of the best bad movies.(The Bank Job being the only exception)

Oh well at least we can all agree Statham kicks ass and pretty much sets the new standard for over the top action.

I also wish Clive Owen would be in more movies like Shoot em Up.

The Transporter series
Shoot em Up
Crank
Smokin' Aces
Punisher War Zone

and the like are all rather enjoyable on some level. Not classics but still good for modern action ficks.

I saw the wrestler, and thought it was pretty depressing. I really did like the ending as well (no spoilers).

Observe and Protect: It was funny but sometimes it was akward, overall I liked it. This guy is coming up with some good stuff.

I saw I Love You Man, and was pretty happy with it. It was a lot of fun. Not as great as Role Models, but Rudd is definitely a pleasure pistol.

Yes Man - Light, airy, fun. Zooey Deschanel is so damn hot. She looked so much younger than Jim Carey, though, that was one thing that was a bit of a stretch (well, beyond the plot itself of course), maybe should have been acknowledged, almost, it was so noticeable. Gag was cute, worked into the lesson well, good ending. 6/10.

Crank - Re-watched for the first time since it came out way back when. Still like it, just purely nuts, obviously. Looking forward to High Voltage on Friday. For what it is, 7/10.

Tell No One - Wow. Impressive as it's made out to be. The plot just keeps twisting and twisting and twisting. Great script, really well-adapted from the novel (writer of the novel says the movie's ending is better than the one he came up with in the book), impressive. French, though, so be ready for subtitles. 9/10.

I thought she looks older than me, like in her mid thirties. Maybe I'm just not living in Colorado, or maybe I am more accustomed to brunettes.

Maybe I'm just being too hard on Jim Carey. I agree that Carell would have been perfect for the role. Younger, too.

Still liked it, though.

And yeah, I'm sure I'm being too easy on ZD, she can't really be all that young, she looked Wahlberg's age in The Happening, and he has to be at least that old (like you mentioned).

But damn, Carey has to be in his 40's now...?

I'm debating about watching Observe and Report. Sounds like they hit on all cylinders in intentionally making a movie that's very awkward to watch.

AVOID AVOID AVOID.

I watched it 'cos Gervais headlined --- bad move. Didn't work as your typical Gervais project, didn't work as a romantic comedy chick flick.

Watched Let the Right One In last night and was pleasantly surprised by it. I honestly didn't read up on it at all before sitting down to it. It's essentially a vampire flick, which I've grown sort of tired of as a genre, but this one is really unique and feels like a completely new take on the subject. Comes off as more of a romance between two children than it does a horror film.

This is foreign BTW, Swedish to be exact, and is based off a novel of the same title. I read up a little on the US release and apparently the studio behind it (Magnet) butchered the subtitles and it lost some of its meaning in the translation. It was still good, but they are supposed to release a revised version at a later date with a more accurate translation.

Highly recommend at any rate if you're into foreign stuff.

I guess so... I guess I just was struck by how damn old I thought JC looked in Yes Man. I honestly had the dude pegged at 45 in YM.

I iz a heartless bastard, I think.

I'm sure Carrell is in his 40's, too?

Further proof that the correct answer is just to give every last role to Paul Rudd and call it a day. :emb:
