the number 23

total ass

Haven't seen it, but it sounds like something that would be written by a schizophrenic on a psychotic break... OMG! The balance sheet ends in 666! It means something!

Hahaha, it's much worse than that my friend. You can't even enjoy the badness of that movie it's so bad. That movie fucking envies Ed Wood.

Anyways, I caught Watchmen today. I liked it, but the nuance is indeed lost in the adaptation. The worst part is the pacing. 12 chapters is fine for a comic, but for a movie, it feels like there are too many acts and it gets a bit ponderous. It comes together in the end though. And some parts are suitably impressive, like Rorschach's mask and Dr. Manhattan.

One thing struck me though: the comic changed its genre on a pretty fundamental level. Will this movie have any effect on future comic book-based films? Who knows, guess we'll find out sooner or later.

Then it must be bad, I hated "Ed Wood"!

I saw Benjamin Button the other day. Very sad, interesting concept.

Also saw Revolutionary Road, which was sad in a different way. You feel bad for both characters, but you can't help trying to figure out why they would stay together in the first place. Tragic ending.

Haha, I meant actual Ed Wood movies, like Plan 9 From Outer Space, which is hilariously bad but fun to watch. The Number 23 is the former but not the latter.

The actual movie Ed Wood is great! Tim Burton at his finest! C'mon man. :shame:

Yeah, number 23 is just plain bad.

There are a heap of problems with it, but the main one being I was bored after the first ten minutes and that didnt change until it had finished.

There are some pretty funny reviews up on imdb that rip it to pieces. Reading them is a better use of your time.

I'll take 23 off my queue, thanks for saving 1.5 hours of my life.

Any opinions on 1408? Is it like Silent Hill 4: The Room? If it sucks, that'll get wiped off my queue too.

The City of Lost Children (1995) - I would've liked this when it came out, but I found it ghoulish and hard to follow. Great cinematography though. I've not seen Pan's Labyrinth yet, to anybody who's seen both.. are they similar? 3/5

1408 is pretty weak.

There is one really good scare/creepy bit.

The rest is meh.

1408 desperately wants to be a Silent Hill movie, and it's more faithful to the Silent Hill atmosphere than the actual Silent Hill movie (which was crap). But the ending is completely utterly lame and typical.

I'll second this, and add that it's probably worth watching if you're a horror fan. Otherwise, I wouldn't go out of my way to catch it.

King Korn (2007) - Documentary about corn. Knew some of the stuff in it, but it's depressing how it effects the quality of our food, and how it's not even being grown to eat directly, but as feed for animals, fuel, and used as by-products in other foods. 3.5/5

Finally watched Reservoir Dogs the other day. Yes, I should be dragged out in the street and shot for taking so long to see it. At the least I did see Pulp Fiction when it was fairly new ;^_^. Reservoir Dogs is an insanely great film though. Mr. White was my favorite character, he's the man. Of course, the amusing drug dealer anecdote was quite amusing.

Also finally saw Donnie Darko tonight. A bit confusing at first but it made sense once I read up on it some. Good stuff, and Jake Gyllenhaal (sp?) pulled off an awesome performance.

1408 is a great short story, but the movie is very, very different, lots of things changed. The first half or so works really well, when things are staying true to the book, but then when it goes off King's original, it's all downhill.

Lessee-

Saw Watchmen again. Still like it a lot, think I actually like it more getting to catch some smaller details, like noticing when Rorschach is spying on the others without his mask before you actually see him in prison without his mask. Malin Akerman is still terrible and Gugino as a 67-year-old is still a joke, but Wilson and Haley carry the movie well enough to make up for it, pretty much, IMO.

Role Models
- surprisingly good. The heavy reliance on LARPing works quite well. Good to see that the Apatow influence of R-rated comedy can work for other directors/writers as well, didn't use to see as many comedies like this. Sean William Scott and Paul Rudd both fit the roles really well.

Transporter 3 - second time I've seen it (saw it at theaters first, now on BD). Solid for the series, but what an awful female lead.

Let The Right One In - holy crap. Swedish Vampire romance? film between 2 kids. it's very slow, but you really don't know where the story is headed (even though the plot seemed simple enough while you're watching it). since i was watching it with "oh this is a love story" glasses on, i somehow missed some of the "twists" in the story. especially after listening to the Director interview when the director asked the question if you see the movie as having a happy ending or a very sad ending. i was going to post some spoilers, but that would ruin the "subtle" surprises if any of you do decide to watch it.

Alone - this was the second movie from the directors of Shutter (the original Thai version). not as good as their first movie. the overall pacing isnt very good, and lacked originality/creativity overall. has a few jump scares, a twist. the leading lady kinda looks like young Jamie Lee Curtis.

[ REC • ] - the original spanish version of Quarantine. didnt watch quarantine btw. the copy i watched didnt have subtitles, but the story was simple enough that i could understand what was going on even with what little spanish i remember/know. it's essentially 28 Day's Later through Blair Witch/Cloverfield vision. it's rather slow through most of it up until the last 30 minutes or so. i liked the low budget feel of it, especially the lack of "effects" (the gangly "monster" at the end....that's not CGI, they actually found someone with a freakish figure)

I should know better, it stars human rubber man Jim Carrey. Jim Carrey in a thriller?! O RLY?!

That's good enough for me. The atmosphere of Jacob's Ladder was enough for me to watch it.

Black Hawk Down

The most realistic war movie ever? I dunno, but who cares when it is this long and boring? No story and too many characters, none of which get sufficient screen time or character development.

The film is just a long, tedious gun fight with no tension. Cue white grunt to shout "RPG" as we see yet another Skinny fire a rocket in slo mo, it misses, and we watch debris fly. All in slow mo....

Also, whoever cast Ewan Macgregor should be taken to Somalia and blown up. Preferably with an RPG.

black hawk down was kind of a long movie.
I think it was the fact that ridley scott directed it that made it such a big hoopla.
well, and of course since it was based on an actual event.

And I just watched Benji for the first time in about 20 years.
totally loved the movie when I was a kid.
Just reaffirmed that dogs rule and I kinda miss my puppy at my folk's place.

Hey, is this on DVD yet? I assume it is, but I don't know for sure.

Watched Milk the other day, and man, I loved it. It's probably my favourite biopic since Kinsey. Sean Penn can be a bit hit or miss these days, but in this role, he was so likable it's not even funny. James Franco steals a few scenes too. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy has a great career in front of him.

I tried to watch Australia. I got about half an hour in before I asked myself why I was subjecting myself to this torture and shut it the fuck off. Man, bad acting, sweeping landscape shots that somehow fail to be epic, ridiculous dialogue... Best of all, I found out later it's a Baz Luhrman movie. I've absolutely despised every Baz movie I've ever seen. A friend of mine tried to get me to watch Moulin Rouge once and I turned it off within ten minutes out of sheer disgust.

I guess some people really like the guy, but I've always thought he's one of the worst directors behind the camera these days. I'd rather watch some Uwe Boll nonsense instead of his shit — at least there might be tits in it.

Black Hawk Down really isn't a very good film at all.

As a war film it's laughable because you really don't come away from it with any sense of, well anything. It has no substance.

It's nothing more than an action flick, a really bad action flick, with nice special effects and attention to detail.

Indeed Mr Lagduf, I totally agree.

Also, Body of Lies fits that description almost perfectly too.

Glad you saw it, I had high expectations for that movie and it managed to meet them --its amazing how likeable Penn is, when he's anything but in real life. That's when I realized he might beat Rourke for the Oscar.
