Watched Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure for the first time, and I love it. "I have a minor edible complex." is the most righteous of lines.

Never read girl comics. And any previous display of batwoman I have seen wasn’t gay.
You're thinking of Batgirl. Completely separate character.

But yeah, Batwoman's orientation was a cynical, contrived corporate move, announced as a cheap publicity stunt before the character even debuted. Although as I recall, it blew up in their faces because the LGBTQ (did I get those in the right order?) community balked at being so blatantly pandered to. That being said, when her comic finally did come out, it was fantastic and quickly won over pretty much everyone.

The tv show, on the other hand, I couldn't finish a single episode of. The writing is spectacularly awful. The characters are poorly-drawn and the dialogue is impossibly uncomfortable to listen to. I felt embarrassed for everyone involved.

The show itself got better as season 1 went along, thanks primarily to the acting of Rachel Skarsten as Alice.

Season 2 will basically be a reboot anyway, as Ruby Rose was basically forced out for being really hard to work with. Instead of recasting the role they're just passing the Batwoman mantle onto someone new.

It’s not a problem for people to be gay, but lately it feels like the gay stuff is being shoved down our throats. It’s hard to digest any more of it.

I see it similar, nowadays gay scenes are often included like assembly work with little to no contextual value to the story. Like you said, it's not a problem for people to be gay, but this stuff starts to be degraded to fanservice levels, mostly by people who aren't gay to begin with, making the outcome feel fake. I can imagine gay people being fed up with this, too.

Wow, that’s a lot of dudes and no women contributors on the splash. How did they find a bunch of guys so woke...

Watched the House on Haunted Hill remake from the late 90s the other night because life has become a desperate search for ways to pass the time til death. Cynicism aside, I enjoyed this one back in the day. Still kind of do. Geoffrey Rush's Vincent Price mustache and scenery chewing still amuse me, the sped-up Jeffrey Combs scene still gives me the heebie jeebies and Chris Kattan's nervous/angry caretaker doesn't annoy me (shocking considering it's Chris Kattan). Even the dumb jump scares don't annoy me as much as they likely would in other movies. <shrug> I think I was just glad it wasn't yet another movie filled with 30-year-old CW actors pretending to be genre-savvy teens being stalked by a genre-savvy themed slasher. The late 90s was an all-time nadir for the horror genre.

On rewatch, I really enjoyed the score. The licensed stuff can go eat a dick (nothing dates a movie quite like a random Marilyn Manson-infused montage) but the original stuff is full of pipe organs and the whole thing sounds like a weird funeral dirge. It's a shame the Dark Castle movies kind of spun out after that... Thirteen Ghosts was meh and Ghost Ship was garbage after the opening scene.

Did you just assume their gender?

On topic, re-watched Carrie, last saw it over ten years ago, also realized it has Switek (sp?) of Miami Vice as one of the school kids in on the prank. This and The Shining are the only worthwhile King filmizations. 3/5

Watched Doctor Sleep on Friday night - 3.5/5

Watched Colour Out of Space on Saturday night - 3/5

I’m tired, I might elaborate on my thoughts later.

Saw the Revenant for the first time last night, I'm not a big fan of western movies but this one hit the right notes for me. Had no idea it was Tom Hardy as Fitzgerald due to the beard and the accent, great acting all around.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold

Good movie. I appreciate them using actual brown actors instead of painting some white ones.

I give it 2 moes up.

Magnolia- Somehow I'd never seen this before which is odd as I'm a big PT Anderson fan. Clocks in at just over 3 hours, it was a lot to get through. Great cast and some good performances but man that was a lot of crying and screaming. I don't have any intention of ever watching it again.

Tom Cruise's best role imo.

The Old Guard - certainly in the upper tier of Netflix exclusives, at least for me. Generally inventive take on the superhero genre, strong cast, good script. Its confidence in setting up a sequel seems a little brazen but I'd also watch said sequel.

did you wonder at all why none of the immortals were confirmed straight, but 2 were confirmed gay, and 2 others were implied lesbian?

movie was. however, confirmed shitty.

I have to agree. White man villain. Brown, women, and gay people - heroes.
Tho i argued to myself that after several hundred years, you probably wouldn't identify as anything sexually.
I would watch a sequel despite the wokeness.

Also wtf was up with Charlize Theron surviving? That didn't make a lick of sense even within the loose rules of the immortality schtick.

It had some decent action scenes but I thought the whole thing was half baked and cringe AF. The villain was downright laughable. The production quality was pretty high though.

Yeah, it was certainly, as they say, woke AF. More so than necessary. I was kind of shocked when the lone white male protagonist (ish) wasn't as evil as he could have been.

That scene was utterly bizarre. At first I assumed that she had one last gasp left, sort of, but then judging by the ending... yeah, much of her character's story was rendered moot.

I really would have liked if Merrick had been a quadruple amputee in an incredibly subtle nod to The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
