Jay and Silent Bob Reboot
Embarrassingly bad. Kevin Smith has never been a good director but after Chasing Amy, he's been in an ever steady decline. With Clerks 2, I felt he somehow found a great way to perfectly construct an epilogue to his uneven directing career.
Ironically enough, the movie works best when it's NOT trying to be funny. Jason Mewes shows a range that I didn't expect from him as an aging Jay that discovers he is a father. Smith's daughter Harley Quinn Smith (fuck off, Smith) plays Jay's daughter Milly (Millenium Falcon, and that's her character's actual name) and while I wouldn't call her a 'good' actress, with the right director and enough experience, she could eventually be pretty good.
There are a ton of cameos from characters throughout the 'saga's, but none of them are really that great except for, strangely, Affleck once more reprising his role as Holden.
Smith has become an old man and it's kind of embarrassing to see him fall back on so much schtick that he should have outgrown years ago. It's when he's NOT resorting to type that the movie works at all.
Watched it on Prime. Now please, Kevin. Stick to getting high on your podcast and your marginally amusing stage anecdotes.
