It's almost like no one associated with Sonic can make a good decision about Sonic (except for the Mania guys).

I re-watched Let Us Prey. It's... not good, I could swear I had liked it the first time I watched it. Sir Davos gets to chew some scenery in a few mildly alright scenes, but other than that and one particular aspect of the ending
Spoiler:
the closeted psycho cop going full metal crazy with a shotgun is good for some spectacle
, pretty meh.

Watched Endgame. It was okay. Way too long. First third of the movie was kind of interesting. Second two thirds skated the edge of boring. It wasn't offensively bad by any means, but nowhere near as solid as Infinity War. I'm not even sure I'd rate Endgame over Age of Ultron.

The one thing I did appreciate was the Jim Starlin cameo. That was way overdue with all the stuff they've taken from his comics for a lot of these movies, not to mention the shabby way Marvel Comics (as opposed to Studios) has treated him of late. But when the thing you're most pleased with in a movie is a cameo, that's not a great sign.

Ready Player One

This was available for free streaming and my 10 year old wanted to see it...so I figured why not.

In short, the film is complete trash...mediocre acting, limp plot, predictable elements.

...but then there's the whole 80's nostalgia element, which at times goes waaayyy down the rabbit hole. This parts confuses me, for a film obviously aimed at a mindless 14-18 year old kid, it makes an ocean of references that hardly any of them would ever know (or even care about if they did). This element makes me question, is this supposed to appeal to adults? When I say the film is dumb...I mean it, it really is not good at all. I can't imagine it appealing to most people our age, even with the never ending pop culture references.

Either way, the film is dumb and the approach is confusing.

Dude. Which do you dislike more-gundam, or stand in your seat and cheer moments?

RX-79 cameo should've been in Pacific Rim, not the pop culture vomit of Ready Player One.

Avengers Endgame

Honestly didn't need to be 3 hours long, but it wasn't too bad. I liked the end, and I think it'd be a good bookend to the MCU if they decided to stop making MCU movies.

Next time make better decisions with your money. That shit will be on your parents Netflix account in 4 months and you can watch it for free, with a better sound system than your local theater is providing.

From the Dark - strong set up, then the second half was mostly awful. The main character consistently makes terrible decisions and basically had me rooting for the monsters to kill her.

Murder Party - Jeremy Saulnier's first movie, I'd been meaning to watch it for a while. It was the inverse of the above- started slow and then picked up and had a very good final 30-ish minutes.

edit: question about a late scene in MP for those who've seen it -
Spoiler:
the audience is meant to infer that the dog ripped Alexander/Tim's face off, right? I rewatched that scene three times and there's no clear shot of how A/T ends up with his mouth gone, but my interpretation is that the dog really likes the coke it's been eating and smells more coke on A/T's lips and thus tries to eat that. Sounds bonkers just typing it out, but I can't think of another answer.

I thought the dog was really coked up. It was a surreal scene.

ITT someone gets called out for spending $20 at the movies on a website that has people routinely spend thousands for plastic and silicon toys.

Particularly on a big, dumb spectacle movie which is one of the only reasons to brave the theaters anymore (as your home theater generally isn't going to have the bass and picture quality of a decent theater).

Rewatched Hereditary. My opinion hasn't changed much. It's one of the better contemporary horror movies, but it's not very scary. I do appreciate it actually adhering to certain aspects of esotericism and having visual / audio thematic elements.

Yeah that was my take on it, good to hear I wasn't imagining anything too out there. Great scene. Alexander's reactions throughout were great. And I know the role didn't demand too much of him but I really liked William Lacey. Murder Party is the only credit on his IMDB page, too.

I need to watch this again. Hereditary is pure atmosphere and dread. I would imagine on second viewing it’s not scary as everything is known (I find that with any horror on repeat viewing), but the first time I watched this was much like the first time I saw The Blair Witch Project at the cinema back in the late ‘90s; completely terrifying. And that’s a good thing!
