I would actually suggest the very first "World Heroes".
Sure, "Jet" is much more refined but I think WH is a great entry point, plus it has really good music and stages.

No reason not to get both, or all four of the series even, but I think starting with the first one is a valid suggestion.

Why? Second one is just as friendly and has more bang for the buck...although any WH is fun nonetheless.
