Monitor frame mod? **Pics added, some questions**

Hello gentlemen,

I purchased a cab from Jeff Kurtz and I am having issues with mounting the monitor in my cab.

The bottom line is that the frame will need to be modified one way or another.

Note: the frame as is sticking out about 2 inches out of the back access panel when I test fitted it.

Option 1:
I cut a couple inches off all 4 risers of the frame to shorten it so it will not hit the back side of the cab.

Option 2:
I cut the risers with slits; just enough so I can bend it back on itself retaining all possible metal that I can.

I just want to know if I modify the frame by cutting off the risers that I will not have issues with the monitors ground. Maybe I'm just thinking too much into it.

I'd say #1 would be cleaner than bending the frame.

Get rid of the frame and mount the monitor pcb on the side, it should in theory fit down below the CRT.

Hello gentlemen,

This monitor gave me such a fight to get in their. I have had to cut all four risers of the monitors frame, cut the actual mounts that are on the monitor itself that attaches to the frame, move the pcb board of the frame back, take 1 back support off so the yolk would not hit the frame, and fabricate copper risers so the monitor would sit further back in the frame as not to hit the cabs bezel.

I am having issues on the bottom right corner of my screen. I used a degaussing coil a few times and it worked a little bit I believe but it still needs some help.


Question 1
Does anyone know of any filler/polish that works on monitors and plexi? It looks as if there are a couple scratches in the plexi of the cabs monitor cover above the bezel as well as that one scratch in the monitor. I'm looking to fill/buff it out.

I have been recommended "Novus" 1,2,3 and this from what I have read will take the anti glare protective coating off the monitor and takes quite some time, but will give good results. For such a small scratch I really do not want to take the entire anti glare off. I may just deal with it.

Question 2
It looks as though there are 2 "V" shaped magnets on the back side of the monitor already. Maybe one shifted slightly when installing.
Does anyone know where you can pic these up?

Question 3
Should I try adding a magnet period to the back of the monitor as I have heard mixed reactions? Does anyone have any other solutions/suggestions?

Just so you know, you should always refer to the monitor's "chassis" as the frame, because the main PCB is called the chassis. Don't ask me why, I have no idea.

Any pics of these magnets on the back side of the monitor you're referring to? If you can maybe upload a pic in MS Paint and circle one in the picture, that'd help identify what you're talking about.


BTW, if you get a chance, you should take some pics of the frame more from the side, and write-up more on what you did - I bet more people would be interested in being able to do that with Neo cabs.

There is not much more to explain on the mods for the monitors frame that I did not list at the top of my other post other than I had to cut the frame a couple more spots and bend the frame a little to clear the rear access panel as you can see in the pic above.

- Does anyone know where to purchase the magnets?

- Is this my best option to fix the monitors picture? Any other suggestions for a fix?

Hmmm... sorry to say, but I've never noticed magnets like that on a monitor before. I could've just overlooked them on mine, though...

Ultimately, I can't picture a situation in which degaussing enough times wouldn't get you where you need to be. I've been pretty successful in degaussing historically - if I end up in your neck of the woods some time soon I'll drop in and take a look at it with ya! (and I may at the end of the month, or early December, to visit my buddy up there)

This is the first time I have seen a cab playing aerofighters with the monitor vertical given it is a hortz orientation game. Is it not hard given the aspect you have now is going to make movement of your plane weird.

The more I play it, the more I have to agree with you. The second is really good, but their is more of a challenge to this one... I love it!

Just cut up fridge magents from pizza/fish & chip shops.. However I assume its the green discolouration you want to fix, a simple degaussing will get rid of that.

Magnets are used to fix geometry issues. They are stuck on there by the chassis manufacturer to make slight adjustments to the display.

So you guys don’t think I should use a magnet because it will distort the image and not help the discoloration. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to fix it?

Did you try rotating the monitor the OTHER WAY?

If that is a stock Neo-29 frame, it will only rotate so that the top (Anode cap) is on the Right.

If it is rotated with the Anode cap on the left, it will stick out like this.

It's a Neo 25 cab.

The monitors frame was symmetrical so it would have stuck out either way.

I rotated it clockwise. I read somewhere that this is the correct way to rotate it, which baffled me as most tate setups that I had seen in the past were rotated counter clockwise. Anyone know if there is a "right way" definitively?
