I hate modest mouse, but I saw a Killers video that I liked a while ago, it was called mr. wrong or something like that. Never heard of that other band you mentioned.

Death Cab for Cutie is alot like Modest Mouse I guess. Really mellow tunes, really helps to alleviate my personal stressors.

I love how a band called "Death Cab" can be so incredibly mellow.

PS after you posted I changed the general theme of this thread.

PS you probably liked "Mr. Brightside"

Midnight Show is an awesome track as well.

I love The Killers' following song... nothing to be ashamed of... great beat great tune

"Somebody Told Me"

Breaking my back just to know your name
Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game
I'm breaking my back just to know your name
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes but don't blink you might miss
Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this
I said heaven ain't close in a place like this
Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight

Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential

Ready? Let's roll onto something new
Taking its toll and I'm leaving without you
Ready? Let's roll onto something new
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes but don't blink you might miss

Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this
I said heaven ain't close in a place like this
Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight

Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential
A rushin', a rushin' around

Pace yourself from me
I said maybe baby please
But I just don't know now
When all I wanna do is try

[x3]
Somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential
A rushin', a rushin' around

That indeed is a great track, but unfortunately played out.

When I first heard that song, my first gut instinct was "One hit wonder"

But if you check out all the other tracks, and you're like me you'll come to the conclusion that they are the real deal.

Here's a link to my blog with pix from when I went to their show.

I hate The Killers, I hate their lead singer even more for being a complete fucking jackass.

I've never listened to Death Cab, but I really like the singer's collaboration with some guy from Dntel (another band I've never heard) on Postal Service - Give Up

Modest Mouse is boring.

I'm not embarassed to tell anyone about any of the music I listen to, but I don't really blab to EVERYONE that I like:
-Seal
-Franz Ferdinand
-The Bravery
-Coldplay
-Dozens of shitty pop singles

EDIT: Btw, if any of you like that Killers, Franz, Bravery, Modest Mouse, whatever, "faggot rock" sound, check out Alpinestars, great band from Manchester.

PS All 3 of the bands that I listed in the topic (which I enjoy) appeared at the fictional Club "The Bait Shop" on The O.C.(along with "The Walkmen" which Im not currently into) This is part of the reason I feel embarassed to like them. (And when I know people refer to bands such as that as "Faggot Rock" and I currently live in San Francisco.

I also love the O.C. God I'm such a dweeb.

PS Buro What is your main gripe with the Killers Singer?

To me he's always seemed like a un-assuming, timid, unwilling rock star who is unsure of himself...but belts out his lyrics.

Also I saw the Bravery... I haven't listened to them since.

I had a longer post here, but I decided to trim it and say I didn't like the Killers until Mr.Brightside.

I know exactly what you mean.

If you were dragged into a club and saw them unwillingly, you would probably walk out liking them even more.

I know I did.

Why would you be embarrassed to like Franz Ferdinand? That seems like a rather pointless reaction, since they're basically one of the most solid pop acts of 2004 (and the definition of pop music is that it's accessible to everyone).

Does the fact that other people may enjoy the same thing as you turn you off to them or something? While it might seem like I'm being deprecating and facetious, I'm actually mildly curious why you would have such a reaction to that band and what such a reaction would stem from.

Now I'm going to try and go to sleep, if the hiccuping of my drunken buddy in the other room doesn't keep me awake. :crying:

People assume I like them because they're popular, not because they produced an incredibly solid rock album.

2 songs I will forever dig

Bowling for Soup's 1985

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of Whitesnake’s car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been
Alright

Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna,
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV!
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
'Cause she still preoccupied
With 19 -- 19 -- 1985.

Woohoohoo

She’s seen all the classics
She knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink
Even St. Elmo's Fire.
She rocked out to Wham!
Not a big Limp Bizkit fan.
Thought she'd get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran

Where's the mini-skirt made of snakeskin?
And who's the other guy that's singing in Van Halen?
When did reality become T.V.?
What ever happen to sitcoms, game shows?
on the radio was:

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV!
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
'Cause she still preoccupied
With 19 -- 19 -- 1985.

Woohoohoo

She hates time; make it stop!
When did Motley Crue become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop, stop, stop!
And bring back:

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV!
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
'Cause she still preoccupied
With 1985.

Woohoohoo!

--------

And BUSTED's Crashed The Wedding (coulda been THE song for Wedding Crashers almost...)

I'm so rushed off my feet, (oh-oh)
Looking for Gordon street,
So much I need to say,
I’m sorry that its on her wedding day...
Coz she’s so right for me, (oh-oh)
Her daddy disagrees,
He’s always hated me,
Coz I never got, a j-o-b...

[CHORUS:]

Coz she’s mine,
And i’m glad i crashed the wedding,
Its better than regretting,
I could have been a loser kid
And ran away and hid
But it's the best thing I ever did.
Coz true love lasts forever
And now we’re back together
As if he never met her
So looking back,
I'm glad i crashed the wedding...

The neighbours spread the word,
and My mom cried when she heard,
I stole my girl away,
From everybody gathered there that day.

[CHORUS:]

just in time,
And I’m glad i crashed the wedding,
Its better than regretting,
I could have been a loser kid
And ran away and hid
I said I'd do it and I did.
Coz true love that lasts forever
And now we’re back together
As if he never met her
So looking back,
I'm glad i crashed the wedding...

don't waste time being
Mad at me for taking her away, coz
Anyway she didn’t want to stay.
So please believe me when I say

She’s glad I crashed the wedding
Its better than regretting...
The ring she got was lame
She couldn’t take the pain,
She didn’t want a silly second name
Coz true love lasts forever,(true love lasts forever)
And now we’re back together
You might as well forget her,
And walk away
She's glad i crashed the wedding

She’s glad I crashed the wedding...
It's better than regretting... (it's better than regretting)
The ring she got was lame
She couldn't take the pain,
She didn't want a silly second name (no no no no)
Coz true love lasts forever, (true love lasts)
And now we're back together
You might as well forget her
And walk away
She's glad I crashed the wedding...

If Buro Destruct is anything like me, knowing 10 million dorks listen to the same thing as you, it could be severly unsettling.

Here's a for-instance.

Once while in a movie waiting for it to start, two rows behind me I saw some huge ugly faggot with 2 girls on each side of him. He had is Ipod, and they were "Sharing" (how cute  ) the headphones, this unwittingly braindead trio proceeded to belt out the chorus to The Killers - Mr. Brightside.

I slumped down in my seat, knowing that I actually liked that retarded track, and buried my face in my hands thinking that I had actually seen a band that those fucks were currently making fools of themselves duplicitiously reciting.

Steve.

Bowling For Soup - Girl all the bad guys want is a great/fun track as well, and is in heavy rotation in my CD changer in my car.

Stop posting lyrics. Seriously.

This shit's not that hard to figure out, and a band/artist and a title of a song will do.

It's a two-way street, and your argument is more of a chicken and egg scenario than anything else.

My advice: stop worrying about it and just listen to them. Who gives a flying fuck? I spent the last few hours of my night drawing shit on my passed out friend's face. Am I ashamed to admit this because it's a popular pastime of drunken assholes everywhere? No. It's quite funny, so I'll shout it out loud to the world. I suggest you do the same with your fondness of Franz Ferdinand. ;)

What does it matter that some guy is listening to the song. That is just fucking
stupid. OMFG WAHHH MY SONG. I still like you man, but stop being such a wierdo.

I'm not ashamed of anything I listen to, but I guess if I had to go with the genre
you guys threw in this thread...

The Bravery
The Killers
Kaiser Chiefs
Death Cab For Cutie
June
The Hush Sound
Motion City Soundtrack
Houston Calls
Emery (check out Listening To Freddy Mercury)
Kind Of Like Spitting (check out 1330 Oak 1995)
Adam's Army
Relient K

I'll add others later.

Whoa I saw someone mention the Postal Service. I had that cd on repeat for like
two weeks...so badass.

I really like a lot of pop music by various artists. Just some really gay stuff. Stuff that I think is fun to listen to in the right atmosphere such as at a club/bar etc.

I like The Killers, Modest Mouse, and The Bravery and don't really see anything embarassing about it. I can understand not liking it when people assume that you only listen to them because they're popular (even if you listened to them long before they made it to MTV/radio), but well, it happens. It did with Bloc Party, for me.
