This just in: Michael Schumacher woke up from his comatose state and is able to communicate with the people around him to some extend. He will be transferred to a rehab facility in Lausanne in a few days.

The docs say that he is "on the very beginning of a long journey back to life".

He's a true fighter, that's for sure.

Well I'll be damned....

Did not think that this was ever going to happen.

Awesome.

Michael Schumacher; born 3 January 1969) is a retired German racing driver. Schumacher is a seven-time Formula One (F1) World Champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time has been transferred from a hospital in Grenoble, France, where he had been admitted after a skiing accident last year,

maybe one other person would click without knowing who he is or what happened?

Thanks capt. obvious. :D

Updates to his progress will most likely be very limited to what I've read. The public is so used to the charismatic F1 driver and ambassador of the sport, I doubt he'll ever have a moment in the public eye again due to his injuries and the outward appearance & behavior that goes along with this sort of injury. His family seems pretty protective about this kind of thing, at least thus far.

I guess it's too early to tell to what extend he will recover from his injuries but the very fact that he woke up from coma and is able to communicate (they didn't say "talk", mind you) is a good sign.

Yeah, totally agree Tak. It looked pretty grim considering how long he was in the coma so any progress is a good sign really.

Im amazed he even came out of it, given the assessment. Hope he's able to get to a point with a decent quality of life.

It kinda amazes me how he didn't suffer major injuries when he was racing instead of skiing. But glad he is on the road to recovery.

It was always a medically induced coma though.

Not that this isn't good news for him and his family that the doctors thought it would be ok to take him out of it, but there is a slight distinction between a man coming out of an induced coma and someone coming out of a comatose/vegetative state.

Slight distincion but between his prognosis and how long he was under, I was expecting he wasn't going to be let back out of it, being the ball of positivity that I am.

Still, great news.

I've read that they adjusted the sedation in a way that his body and mind was able to induce the wakeup process on its own so in the end, he woke up by himself.

Whatever, I hope he'll make it.

BIG difference between being in a safety cage in a Formula 1 car with a helmet, fire resistant clothing, and a HANS device vs. being on skis with some gloves and goggles on.

I will put on my Captain Obvious hat and say ".... and all of Germany breathes a sigh of relief"

I believe he was also wearing a ski helmet and it cracked at impact.

I was staying in a hostel once on the coast of the Netherlands in the early 2000's, got into a discussion with one of your countrymen about gaming. He mentioned how he was all into this new F1 game on Play station. So of course being the F1 fan I am I started talking about F1 in general. He was like "WTF, is this stuff real? I thought it was just a game?" I was a bit stunned and said so you don't know who Michael Schumacher is? He just looked at me blankly and said he thought the names were just made up for the game. :lolz:

Not so obvious then.

Glad he is out of the coma but I think he will be pretty much fucked. A Muhammed Ali type figure for the F1 world.

Look Tommy boy, there are going to be random rednecks that span the globe that don't know who the dude is. I get that. You and your literal bff Karou need to lighten up. :lolz:

However, it was worth it to have him send me a PM entitled "Twat" and have him rage post a poll immediately thereafter.

Good new indeed! Except the French had him, they probably actually killed him and what we have now is a boot. So there will probably be audio glitches and won't preform as a real one will...

I thought the Shumster was going to be no more than a vegetable.

I hope he recovers the most possible.

Accident? In Grenoble?

Clearly this is the work of Andre the Giant's posse.

But is the soul currently housed in his body the same as the original before the coma? The world may never know.
