Just got MSX and I can't stop playing it. The Mr. T stunt double half way through the final level and the Independence Day rip-off at the end are hilarious! My question now is, exactly how much better are the Neo home cart versions? I've played MS in the arcade, but that was so long ago, I can't really remember it. I'm just trying to figure out if $400+ for a game is going to be that much more fun than the $35 I just payed.

The Neo version looks and plays considerally better than the PS one. More frames of animation and better backgrounds. And of course, no load time. All of these make for a better game IMO.

The more I play Metal Slug X on PS the more I notice it's shortcomings. The music, the voice, and the sound effects don't sound nearly as good as the neo version, also a considerable amount of animation is missing (ever notice how pathetic some of the weapons and in particular the cannon fire explosion from the metal slug looks???).

However, you are exactly right...for $35 you cannot go wrong. Seems like Sony actually did something right for once.

I agree that $35 for a normally very expensive game is nice, but it sure does not beat the real thing. I used to collect the SNK ports of the fighting games (KOF, Fatal Fury, etc.) on Playstation and Sega Saturn. Then, I got the Neo Geo AES system and it was like I had never played them before. I definitely will say the SNK ports to other systems are a very good option for those on a budget.

>>Independence Day rip-off<<

I think Independence Day came after the game.
At least the Neo Geo Version. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Neo Geo version is the best. Dont like the look of the explosions on PSX. Load time is not too bad. Music sound really low.

Wasn't ID4 during '96?

Didn't MS2 come out about the same time?

Anyway, PS version of MSX is a good translation. C'mon, people. We only pay $39 on CD version (over $200 for AES version) so we can't complain about those missing animations or frame rates.....
