No "oof." They said they're working on a new game. I'll take it.

I'm certainly cynical but I think you're reading a bit too much into what they might mean by "a brand-new Metal Slug.". I'd say they phrased it that way on purpose to give you the impression that a new traditional game was coming but is it?

They could have said they are working on Metal Slug 8. They could have said they're working on a new non-mobile/console title. They could have said many things that would have made me more likely to believe they intended to mean a new, mainline Slug game.

They did not. By this language Metal Slug Rush is also "a brand-new Metal Slug".

Es solo un deseo. :risilla: Ojalá lo hagan para AES+.

It would have been better if they had developed the Neo Star, at least a 32-bit version, instead of the 16-bit AES+. It's like Sega or Nintendo announcing the Mega Drive+ or the SNES+ and then developing new 16-bit games for them at this point. A lot has changed since the early 1990s, when 16-bit gaming was still in its infancy. https://snk.fandom.com/wiki/Neo_Star

lol. Thank Mao they didn't release that or the company would've went bankrupt years earlier. That means you just sacrificed Slug 2, Last Blade, RBFF Special, MOTW, etc. for a console that would've had, at max, five games.

Congratulations fool, you just played yourself.

I can't believe someone mentioned releasing the Neo Star and it wasn't a joke.

The AES+ is just an excuse to re-release old stuff. It's not a real platform for a large company to develop new games for.

It's a platform for small companies to develop new games for. Just depends on what kind of deal Plaion is offering.

Remember when NCI was promising Pulstar 3 and other stuff like that before they released their version of Treasures of the Caribbean? That's what modern SNK making Metal Slug 8 is like, except, probably a million times more competent. Reddit people are suggesting Shock Troopers 3, Top Hunter 2, Magician Lord 2, etc. How much better will they do than Le Cortex? Storybird Studio is doing Bang Bang Busters 2, so they could still surprise you.
I mean honestly I would love to see a sequel for in the hunt

Why am I not surprised that this would be trash.
It's not the actual reboot they mentioned, just yet another mobile game.

As for MS: Rush, just looks like they changed it to an overhead view and made the backgrounds boring as fuck. More gacha nonsense too, I'm sure.

Is it even possible for the developers so ise original assets and just create a whole new Slug game with like 80% of the past series sprites and animations? Or are the assets and development tools just too old to use now?

Do you want a Slug 4? This is how you get a Slug 4.

You know what... If it's a choice between another Slug 4... And no Slug at all... I will accept another Slug 4.
That's how you get declining franchises that start out as Raiders of the Lost Ark and end up as The Dial of Destiny. Sometimes it's better to just go out with dignity while you still have something left Barry Sanders style.

They have already destroyed the MS dignity with all the mobile game releases. That bridge was crossed long ago.

I don't care about mobile games, so it doesn't have that effect for me. Mobile has no dignity.

Metal slug 4 is garbage. You'd be better off spending your money by putting it in a trash can and lighting it on fire to keep warm on a winter night.

The Metal Slug reboot wasn't coordinated with the AES+ announce - licensing division vs. games division; they didn't know what the other one was doing, seems like.

Casuals on Twitter and Reddit seem to want all the SNK news to be about the AES+, but it's technically not even directly an SNK product.

Can't deny that the AES+ is sucking up all the oxygen right now.
