Remember when NCI was promising Pulstar 3 and other stuff like that before they released their version of Treasures of the Caribbean? That's what modern SNK making Metal Slug 8 is like, except, probably a million times more competent. Reddit people are suggesting Shock Troopers 3, Top Hunter 2, Magician Lord 2, etc. How much better will they do than Le Cortex? Storybird Studio is doing Bang Bang Busters 2, so they could still surprise you.

Magician Lord 2 I'd actually be totally interested in. Make it a proper Metroidvania like the NGPC prototype was leaning into, and I'd play the hell out of it.
Beyond that, assuming anything new actually does get made, I'd like to see more "home console" style games on the Neo. We're filled to the brim with arcade-style games, so hit us with something different.

There hasn't been anyone at SNK that had a hand in any of the original games for years. I don't think I trust SNK making new Neo Geo games and sequels much more than the independent developers, in fact I probably trust the Indy devs more because they at least have a passion for old school 2d games

Not true. Oda's been there since 1993, one of their art directors was around since the 90s, some of the SNK sound team like Sha-V, Zoe, and Hori_Hori...
There's others too, but I don't remember exactly who off the top of my head.
If we're talking dot artists and programmers, that I don't know. Old ones could always come back and new ones can be trained.

Why not both? A game can have a straightforward path on MVS mode and an expanded campaign on AES mode with access to everything.

Since this got bumped, if anyone has been paying attention they have been posting something on the Facebook page every 2 days for each title in the series and they posted 7 today. Based on the history timeline of "major" releases they'll post XX next and then the other stuff, Defense, Attack, Awakening, and Tactics. Then in theory if they're announcing anything new it would come after that.
So in about another 10 days we might have an answer if Metal Slug 8 is coming.
