I wish they had simply made it more of a traditional tactics RPG instead of rogue like.
Ugh, seriously that's what they did? I haven't read anything about it, I was hoping it was just basically Final Fantasy Tactics with Metal Slug. Or even like a Slug version of Valkyrie Chronicles.

I've only played the demo, and I don't even really know what a rogue-like (lite? I've seen both is this an autocorrect thing?) is supposed to be. I read your review in the main thread, and based off the limited demo experience I can definitely see the shortcomings. Advance Wars this is not.

It's too bad because I honestly think they nailed it on the art direction.

Metal Slug Tactics ain't bad though. It is a great blend of Tactics and rogue-like. Most Tactics games-like have a defensive approach to their gameplay but this one forces you to be on the offensive most of the time which is quite unique and fun.

My biggest grip of the game though is that it feels like a mobile game ported to home consoles (the ridiculous amount of confirmantion buttons is beyond stupid) and the gameplay feels clunky at times.

Yeah, that was my feeling as well. I also found it difficult to see on handheld screens, but that's another story.

Have you played Hades or the Binding of Isaac?

Those are Rogue-likes (ie games “like” Rogue which is a practically ancient game at this point) Rogue-lite is i don’t fucking know…lite on the Rogue copying? Easier? It’s the kind of sub-sub-sub music genre distinction that i don’t care for/not useful for most people.

They’re basically arcade style games where some elements are randomized (level layouts sometimes but usually powerups and weapons.) That way each time you play the game the experience is different. A lot of them now have meta elements where the more you play the more you unlock or your character is stronger overall.

Not my favorite genre, like, at all.

Still MS Tactics isn’t a bad game but like the last thing I want is another Rouge-like.

Agreed it’s not a bad game by any means. Just not what I was hoping for.

Not only have I never played those games, I've never heard of them. Including Rogue.

I could certainly see that being the case. I don't see anything glaring, but each clip is only like 3 seconds which is a red flag and since they're just generic landscapes anyway, there isn't much detail to use to find AI hallucinations.

And since they have a track record of using it already. Even though personally I don't blame them. I also don't blame anyone for presuming anything they put out at this point is just done with AI.

Rogue is from 1980 lol. I am only familiar with it because of my love of dungeon crawlers and fantasy shit.

Surprised you or the kids havent played Hades. It’s on Switch, sequel is on console too. It’s a good game. Good voice acting too. From the Devs who did Bastion years ago on 360/ps3. Thats a great little Zelda-ish clone.

Go search Rogue-like as a category on steam some time*

*pro-tip: dont

Aren't the souls like games just a derivative of rogue apart from the randomness

I believe that is what separates a "lite" from a "like".

Can anyone definitively spot 6 featured in this? I'm trying to figure out if it's likely to be in a potential collection before I do something stupid.

What, are you going to buy the monkey rug?

Just in case no one has checked in on the website again since it launched, there are more illustrations up and a link to a vinyl or CD collection of tracks as well as a collection of t-shirts, a hoodie, posters, and yes a monkey rug.

Based on cost and how much I'm likely to use it, buying the monkey rug would be less stupid.

To try to answer your question more seriously, what are you referring to? 6 is featured in that promo video as a title card and (at least) one screenshot, so I'm not sure what you mean.

Thanks. The screenshot is what I was looking for. It's been so long since I have played some of the newer ones that I can't identify them.

I'm fairly certain these are both 6, but open to being wrong.
