Got a surprise release from SNK last week. MSA: Reloaded was released for all consoles and PC (on Steam) for the low price of $10.

The (now formerly) mobile game was redone and re-balanced, with all the predatory gatcha and energy bar crap removed. Units are still acquired through pulls, but now medals are exclusively earned in-game. No micro-transactions at all, though I wouldn't be surprised if they charge for some a la carte DLC down the road.

Been playing it on my Steam Deck and enjoying the hell out of it. Some of the mechanics are way too grindy (i.e. character equipment drop rates) and there's some balance issues that need to be worked out with some stages, otherwise they've done a great job.

Picked this up last week on steam as well following the announcement.
Would love to see the King of Fighters All Star beat em up game get a similar treatment for steam. It’s been ages since I’ve logged in to play it, but the growing playable roster in that game was always more fun than it had any right to be.

Looks fun, any word if they are going to do physical console cartridges for it?
Nope, and I doubt it. Doing a physical release for a $10 game sounds like a great way to lose money.

Amen to that. I would absolutely love this, especially if it brings back some level of skill to the fights instead of just having powerful enough characters set to Auto and tapping on Specials every now and then.

Won't happen at the very least until the servers get shut down for it, and that'll only happen when it stops making enough money.

Metal Slug Commander, short lived as it was, was also a lot of fun and I'd love to see it get the same treatment.

BTW, some person on Reddit with absolutely no life and apparently no need to sleep not only beat it, but maxed each and every one of the 300 characters in the game.

I've put about 40 hours into the game so far and I'm, at best, a third of the way through the game and only have 15 characters 4 starred, not even maxed.

Picked this up about a week ago and have been liking it a lot. Most of the "gameplay" is spent in menus unlocking and leveling shit up, while the actual fights I just set to auto and watch them play out. That constant progression is seriously addictive though. I will say that grinding for specific items is tedious as hell at times, especially if the XP reward for that stage is minimal. However, the fuse mechanic does alleviate this a bit.

Overall it's nice to see SNK showing love to this little mobile game.

You'll reach a point where Auto won't save you and you need teams with certain types of attacks and skills to win, unless you're just over-leveled and can steamroll. That's good IMO though as it requires you to mix things up instead of just relying on the same deck over and over again.

I'm really hoping they re-balance the grind, or at the very least, reintroduce the MSP crank. I'm swimming in an absolute bloat of MSP that would be impossible for me to spend, and the game desperately needs a money sink with how super cheap it is to level your units and your base.

Also hope they have a feature to level up all your units with one tap, and/or have an auto-level feature where it will automatically level up both the general level and skills without manual intervention.

Yeah, pretty sure I've just been overleveled, spamming the same PF deck on auto. I should start actually playing the game soon, I just found that the easiest and most effective way to progress was fast forward and auto. Path of least resistance ya know.
However, I have been experimenting with alien decks if my PF one doesn't get the job done, to some success.
And I will say that initially, I wasn't too happy that they force you to play 'another story' in order to progress in the main world, but it's a good way to make me experiment with, and upgrade other units.

Bro, tell me about it. I'm sitting on 10 million MSP and have jack shit to spend it on. They definitely need to introduce new ways to spend money or heavily rebalance the cost of upgrading.

Also hope they have a feature to level up all your units with one tap, and/or have an auto-level feature where it will automatically level up both the general level and skills without manual intervention.
Again, right on the money. This is no doubt something they will be adding; it seems like a no brainer. Having to manually level each unit individually brings the tedium to eye-roll worthy levels.

Been thinking of getting into online so I can start actually getting good at the game, however I'd have to shell out the 30$ or whatever it is for switch online. You been playing it at all? Is it any good?

Hadn’t heard of this game before, I assume it’s just some time waster?

What’s the gameplay loop?

It's a 2D tower defense style game in a nutshell, but the Metal Slug universe and gameplay influences make it a lot more fun and interesting.

There's also unit upgrading, deck building, gacha pulling (without microtransactions), etc. And yeah, at it's core, it's a bit of a time waster, but a really enjoyable one, especially for the price. Well worth the $10. Best on the Switch or Steam Deck IMO so you can enjoy it on the go.

Cool I’ll check it out. I saw there was some F2P Metal Slug game launching on Steam later this month. Is this a new title or some mobile shit?

RE: Metal Slug Tactics I downloaded the demo but it didn’t appear to have native controller support (or maybe I missed it in the options) on Steam Deck so I didn’t bother docking my deck until yesterday to check it out…only to find it was a timed demo. LOL.

I liked MS Attack a lot for a mobile game. I would absolutely pay $10 for a version with all the microtransaction/gatcha moneygrabing/hyper power creep taken out. If they released this version for mobile. But it's not a game I'd play on a console or computer or whatever.

It was a fun phone game, though.

Hopefully they will. I really don't see any reason why they wouldn't/shouldn't.

I have never been a fan of tower defense. I think the closest I've gotten to enjoying one was Orcs Must Die. But that was short lived in my library.

I'm not much of a tower defense guy either, but this game has a really fun spin on it that is very "Metal Slug" in it's approach, if that makes any sense.
