I would buy this, but I can just play the one I already own on my girlfriend's Wii.

As much as I want to like this collection, it's got controller lag! Fuck! :very_ang:

It's 2007! You're running emulation! How hard is it to fix?! While it's nice to have 7 games for $40, I'd rather they'd have delayed this again to fix the problem.

Really, anyone else have this problem?

I will probably pick it up soon, but I'm just not as excited as I was. I was a year ago, but now I'm burnt out and moved on. SNK really knows how to kill a good thing instead of just putting it on a disc and cashing in.

I've been pretty happy with my Wii version. Just turning the wiimote sideways is better than I thought. I'm not regretting not getting the PS2 version.

I got the PS2 version the other day. The first thing I did was play Slug 1. I was struggling to make it to the end of stage 2. Something wasn't right, the controls felt unresponsive with my Hori stick. I popped in Slug 1 in my Neo CD and it's a night and day difference. The Neo CD's controls are tight and responsive. I made it all the way to stage 5 without dying. Like others have said, this port definately has control problems. It's pathetic.

Guys..please remember that these games are emulated. That could be a reason why there is a control lag.

yeah they're emulated so you can't expect perfection. While I'm better at the arcade I don't have much trouble playing this emulated versions. I'm posting my high scores in my sig btw :) haha

yikes haven't posted here in awhile. But i picked this up yesterday and I too have noticed the lag, It's espessially noticable in slug 1 (I think due to the fact that SLUG1 is the only slug i ever put alot of time into and 1cc) have alot of problems for example in stage two when the solder is on top of a huge flight of stairs rolling bombs downward and you havta jump between the bombs to get to him, i couldent do this at all in the ps2 version. while on mvs it's pretty easy.

While it is pretty disipointing, Slug 6 plays fine and is really the reason i bought this. i really hoped this was the arcade perfect slug 1 I been hoping for but ahh screw it *opens up mame*

Damn, I was waiting for more people to confirm/debunk the lag issue. Slug 1 is my favorite too... Guess I'll wait till it's in the bargain bin to pick MSA up.

Lag??

I have a first generation PS2 and have not noticed any lag. I have spent hours playing MS 1-5 on Mame and they seem to play the same except for the lag in the character select screens. I also use a wireless controller with my PS2 and have not had any problems.:spock:
With as much antitciaption there was with this collection and the delays it had you know people were going to complain about it.

It isn't being compared to mame but the aes/mvs originals.

I can deal with load times and minor differences. When you start changing the feel of the controls, it ruins the flow of the game. Especially if you've been playing it for over 10 years. I have all of the games on MVS anyway but it would have been nice to have good ports all in one collection.

I'm totally not one to just bitch over minor things, but yes if u played one of the early slugs hardcore in the past, mastered the timings and all. then you will have problems.

its not THAT bad, i'm playing slug1 as we speak and sort of adapting to it, its still a great collection. It's just not perfect you can adapt just fine, but its having to adapt that i find is the issue.

playing slug 2 with minor slowdown is almost worth it alone, i never liked slug 2 because the serious slowdown, now slug 2 is better than X :)

the issue is minor, its like a split second if even...its not like playing online or somthing. I dont want to sound rude or elitist, but i beleive anyone who doesent notice the issue is just not as hardcore into the game to notice such a minor change in the controls. If this was a rythem or fighting game im pretty sure EVERYONE would notice

I could be wrong...i HOPE i'm wrong, but there is DEFINATLY a issue with my copy

I think the lag (and perception of such) varies a lot from person to person and game to game. I spent some time yesterday switching back and forth with MSX on MVS and PS2. There is a little bit of lag, but to me it's not really a big deal. If I had to guesstimate I'd say it's probably on average no worse than the slightly 'off' feel of MAME on a PC. Disappointing, yes, but not a deal-breaker. In fact, I'd say the reduced slowdown has more overall effect on the feel of the game (whether that's good or bad is your call).

Of course, the collection is imperfect in other ways as well. The games are displayed in interlace and the sound, as ever, is off. It's still perfectly playable, though -- although I probably wouldn't use it for HS runs. Worth the money IMO, and better than the Wii/PSP versions.

Think I got it!!

The buttons on the PS2 game pad are pressure sensitive. While I was playing MS1 if I tapped the jump button Maro would only do a half jump. When I gave the button a proper push he did his full jump. I don’t think there is a delay only the games not being 100% compatible with pressure sensitive controllers. I don’t have any old PSOne game pads around to try them out, if I recall pressure sensitive buttons started with the PS2 pads.

The Xbox pads were the same way. Thankfully they dropped that for the 360.

Mushy Mushy.

Nope. Not that what you're saying isn't true, but there is still some slight lag going on. I'm playing with a stick (fully digital), and it's still noticeable.

edit -- in reference to what I said earlier, I just tried playing MS1 on this collection. The lag in that game is REALLY bad... far worse than the later games in the series. It's borderline unplayable.

I got the ps2 version today and I hate to sound like a broken record but the lag is there. You can tell when you press down to crouch. You actually have to wait for the crouch animation to kick in. This is most noticeable in MS 1. But it is in MS2 as well. MS6 on the other hand plays just fine. The only real issue with it is that the backgrounds are not as sharp as they are in the Wii version.

I always thought this was a feature of Metal Slug 1 that they dropped in all the other games, because it's evident in MAME as well. I like being able to choose between a half jump and the full jump because it adds more depth to the gameplay, that was always one of the reasons Slug 1 was my favorite of the series.

Just wondering, does the import version of MS6 look or play better than the US anthology pack version?

Is there a difference at all?
