METAL SLUG ANTHOLOGY for the PlayStation®2 System

Comprehensive Collection Includes Seven Titles
from SNK PLAYMORE Hit Arcade Franchise

Wall, NJ – March 27, 2007 – SNK PLAYMORE USA CORPORATION, the U.S. publishing arm of the SNK PLAYMORE CORPORATION, announced today that METAL SLUG ANTHOLOGY for PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system is shipping to retailers across North America.

METAL SLUG ANTHOLOGY celebrates the 10th anniversary of one of the greatest action arcade franchises of all time. Included in the collection are METAL SLUG, METAL SLUG 2, METAL SLUG X, METAL SLUG 3, METAL SLUG 4, METAL SLUG 5, and the latest entry in the series, METAL SLUG 6.

“Metal Slug Anthology is the ultimate arcade collection for SNK fans” said Ben Herman, president of SNK Playmore USA. “This collection has been a huge seller for the Wii™ and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, and now PlayStation 2 system owners will have their chance to add it to their game library.”

The Metal Slug Anthology has been receiving plenty of praise from the press. According to leading gaming website, GameSpot, “The Metal Slug series has been responsible for the best 2D shooter action anywhere in the past 10 years, and arguably ever…” GamesRadar comments that, “It’s some of the best 2D you’re ever likely to see…”

I'm going to wait for the reviews. I sure am glad I held out on not getting the Wii version. Besides the fact that all the extra Wii controls sucked, the extra loading and the bosses NOT flashing when you hit them was a pain the ass. I can't wait to get this and use my Hori Joystick with it.

Anyone know if this is gonna have the blood edited out? If so I'll wait for the Japanese version.

IMPRESSIONS.

Played some Slug 1...the flash when fighting bosses as back, and also the Mission Complete tune plays ever time, sometimes it wouldn't on the Wii. The blood is completely there as well.

Of course, playing with a stick is the shit. I'm not hating on the Wii as a machine, but the PS2 version of this is just a bit nicer overall.

Great to hear Loopz. Could you check Slug 6? Somebody on another message forum said that the backgrounds were really grainy, but then he said he never played it before so it might be just the way Slug 6 looks.

Slug 6 is grainy, period. The rendered BGs by way of Atomiswave never looked that good. However, both this and the Wii version look grainier than the original PS2 version. The old PS2 version of Slug 6 clocks in at 2GB thanks to extras, while the entirety of Slug Anthology on PS2 is just one gig, so I don't know if they dithered it a bit just to get it down or whatever. There's still a ton of space on an average DVD so your guess is as good as mine.

Slug 3 also has some load times as well.

At any rate, we all know MVS is king. :mr_t:

More than worth $40 for any Slug fan.

They are ROMs emulated on PS2, hence they are arcade perfect in terms of content unlike the earlier ports. And yes, this does work on HDLoader.

I don't give a fuck if MS6 is grainy. I'm going to the store and buying it once I see it.

its roms????

Are you going to tell me you actually thought they've been building these games from the ground up on the Wii and PS2/PSP? Shit no. Every release you've bought from them since, shit, maybe 2002 has been ROMs on plastic. That's just the way it is man.

I tried it in HDloader and the Neo Geo games work, but I get a Black Screen of Death if I select MS6. There might be some solution to this.

Lag

have you guys noticed any lag? I thought I did w/ ms 1, but after a while I didn't. I've read some people complain about sound quality too. I haven't noticed. MSA is totally worth the $40.

I have the PSP and the PS2 versions. The PSP has really bad load times and the sound is delayed. The PS2 version is by far better in sound and game play. Maybe they should have had the guys from Mame write the emulator.
Total worth $40.

The extras on the discs are unlockable artwork and the sound tracks to the games. The PSP version you win tokens for beating each game and you buy the art works and sound tracks with the tokens. The PSP also had wallpapers you could buy and use on the PSP. The PS2 version when you beat a game it unlocks the sound track for that game and one of the art galleries.

I picked up my copy today. Its flat out the best $40 an arcade enthusiast can spend. I haven't been able to play any Slug since my cab bit the dust last September so to be able to play them all again, and for $40 no less, is frickin' great. They're not completely perfect compared to my MVS carts (loading times, etc.) but I'm not going to split hairs since its a miracle we even got this collection state side. I'm just glad to have 1,2,X, and 3 all on one disc. I could care less about 4,5,and 6.

MVS still rules the school, but for the money this is the best way to rock Metal Slug.

Blast away and go, go, go, bitches!

drove to st louis to pick up a copy. It's totally worth the 40 bucks. I hate the loading times during the loadup, but it's not so bad during gameplay. I love playing MS6, but I can't compare it to the arcade version. I din't think it was too grainy or anything. I haven't really noticed any slowdown, but I can't say if there's any since I was playing by myself and not with others. Did anyone else noticed they just cut and pasted some of the manual from the psp version. Copy music directly to the memory stick?

I picked up my copy this afternoon and have already got three hours on it. I am really enjoying this compilation.

The $40 is well worth it and I absolutely love the fact that you can use a joystick when playing. I am not so sure about the free play they imposed.

I bought the PSP version to have for an upcoming 3 week road trip. well worth the money it comes out to like $5 a game. The loading is annoying though it really breaks up the action also I've noticed slowdown at times especially when putting it in full widescreen mode.
