I fear that capturing the essence of mario is going to be gone after this game. But damn what a game it was.

I agree. This game really is amazing. I always said how I liked Mario Sunshine... and I did, but after playing this, the quality leap is so huge I can't even go back. I mean this game really really is amazing. Makes me feel like a kid playing it, if that makes any sense.

I knew, after finally playing the real deal, even though you had potty-mouthed it based on the vids, it would melt your icy British heart kern.

:mr_t:

It's just so damned good. Great play mechanics, graphics and music aside, what absolutely floors me is the level design. This is the kind of thing that used to make the Nintendo-bred titles stand out in every generation, and they have truly come back in a major way. It's such good use of the hardware, could only really be done using that control scheme.

BTW, here's schwag for us to drool over...

will this game justify a wii purchase?

if so, i might get one just to check it out.

I know how high your standards are BIG...I really believe this meets them.
I enjoyed Mario 64, but didn't outright LOVE it...Mario Sunshine left me cold.
This game kicks both of those games' ass on every level.

i'm really digging the 1 star 'extra' galaxies. surfing 101 was a fun diversion, while sweet sweet galaxy is some of the most wicked platforming design i've seen, totally out of left field compared to other levels.

easily game of the year.

no shit man. I played galaxy almost all day today...probably the most action my wii has seen in a lonnnng while.

As someone mentioned earlier, it doesn't take very long to finish the main story line, but it's so much fun I'm still going after all the stars.

I just beat the game with the 60 stars and tomorrow I'm going to go back for more. Thank god the fight with King Koopa was FUN this time. The whole thing with him in the bathtub in Sunshine was such a let down. The stage getting to him was more fun then the final boss fight.

Really glad I got the game, it's got great music, great looks to it and even though some of the gravity stages take getting used the the control works great. I just had a hard time figuring out the red flying stars. It took me forever to collect TWO coins.

one day of my life is probably busier than week of yours :)

I just read this, and I HAVE to reply.

You played the game for 11 hours in one day. 11 fucking hours. How the hell is my week not as busy as your day? I have a full time job, a very young child, work out more than anyone you'll ever know, and am finishing up making/editing/staring in a full length film that I made BY MYSELF. How in the fuck do you think you're busier than all of this? I'd really like to know.

So, the fact that you would complain that the game was too quick to beat, when you only played half of it, is only the fault that you have way too much time on your hands. I don't have 11 hours in a day to sleep, nevermind play a video game. God, I wish I did.

Forgive the lateness of my reply, since I didn't see the absurd post until just now...

I'm almost done with the game now (114 stars), and I have to say it was a blast, although a little on the easy side...I hope these last stars are a challenge.

Im quite far into the game, been playing it on my days off.

Whats the deal with the lives? I know its easy to get extra lives but it would have been better if the game saved your lives and they were harder to obtain.

Also is quite easy but an amazing game!

I'm still playing this, and it's fantastic. I have to ask: is there a time that getting coins or star bits matter for stars? Like in Mario games of the past, does getting a certain number of things make stars come out? I always found those to be a bit tedious...

The game is freaking great right now. Some levels are getting pretty damn long compared to the ones you play at the beginning.

I played some of this at a friend's house today.

Got 2 or 3 stars, and they were about 40 odd stars into the game.

All I can say is that the control was nice, and the experience generally a positive one, but it has to be one of the most overrated games ever.

Ultimately it only took me a couple of minutes to get used to the controls, and then after that it was pretty much like any other Mario game.

I read one review for this where they gave the sound 10/10. A perfect score??? For what exactly? A few sound effects and some orchestral remixes of old Mario tracks? Riiiiight.

Anyway, it seemed like a nice little game, but yeah, seriously overrated.

That is all I have to say on the subject.

Yeah, that fucking figures. I know if this were on PS3 you'd be pooping your pants right now.

I'm really disappointed in how there is hardly any ramp up in difficulty throughout the entire game. I finished up getting all the possible stars last night and I feel no sense of accomplishment...and the "reward" is lame as hell.

So I got to play Galaxy for the past two nights until my brother took his wii back to school.

It owns hard.

I got 35 stars and I felt like the game had a hell of a lot left in store. The Worlds were varied and fantastic. Space Junk was killer, as was Freezeflame (I think it was called), but the windy garden galaxy was my favorite hands down.

The control is so badass I dont even know where to start. All I know is that the variety of jumps means there are several ways to do everything which gives the player countless opportunities to add his own flourish to the game and develop a playing style.

Sound is (.)(.)

Comets add sweet gameplay elements (fuck you, cosmic comet)

All in all it makes me ashamed of myself for not owning a wii.

@ Kern - Dont stop hating, it was hilarious.
