Something I have been wondering is if anyone here has ever tried to make their own cab? I have entertained the idea of either doing a mini big red, as I have only ever personally seen two. The other one I though about doing was more of a Viewlix style. I will do a little more research on this and post what I find.

*Side Note: This would not be for some crappy ass MAME cab either. I would much prefer to put original hardware in whatever I may/will build.

If you're looking to do vewlix style, there are plans for KRAYLIX cabs out there. They're not bad looking :)

Yeah Kraylix are very nice, i bought his 2-player setup & 1-player slim x 2 for head 2 head. I recommend the head2head, it will be easier to find acceptable monitors w/ minimum input lag. 32" are hard to find. So you should keep that in mind when doing your build, 23" & 27" would be the ideal route to go for if you want great input lag, if it doesn't matter too you then 32" would be fine. I would recommend the Samsung UN32EH4003 32-inch http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0078LSTWU/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 the input hardly noticeable.

Here are my Kraylix cabs so you have an idea.

The prices are on his website. Seem like the prices has gone up for the slims. Its now $595 each for the slims & $695 for the 2player. Shipping was about $150. These are just the wood kit unpainted. You can find more info on his website.

I'd love to see a New Net City cab kit. That'd be awesome.

I've built a wide variety of cabs over the past couple years - nothing nearly as proper as a Kraylix, but to give you some ideas:

Swappable Control Panels (no need, one is just a back up) - they use McC's so are compatible with pretty much anything but Neo and N64.

Built with TATE in mind:

One my son and I made together for cub scouts:

Something portable, for in bed gaming...or a bartop, I guess:

mjmjr- Those are some lucky kids for sure! Very cool projects youve done in the past. Your wife lets you play that while in bed?

She does a lot of reading and photoshop once we get our kids down - so yeah, if I don't feel like reading or playing current gen on the main TV in the bedroom, i'll play some JAMMA boards in bed. It weighs about 35lbs, so after an hour or so it's a bit heavy on the knees, but I rarely play more than an hour ever anyways, so not an issue really.

Before I bought a candy cab I "attempted" to build a cab. This was years before anything like the Kraylix was out. I spent more money trying to build a cab than I did on my New Astro City.

Truth - If you honestly feel you can dedicate the time to it and you have woodworking skills, go for it. I had to step back and think about how I really am with my time, and I just couldn't make it happen.

I'm much happier with a candy cab.

If it's any consolation, BlackIce lives closer to Ken@thegameroom than anyone.. He has the ability to go get one, so this is more than likely just for a project, rather than lack of availability.

Lemme know if you need any help building it Rich, I'll be there with bells on!

Those look really nice :) I have a couple of candy cabs myself, but I still have an itch to setup a MAME build from scratch cabinet. I want to start with a good USB control panel first.

My main bit with MAME is to try and get two players (6 or 7 buttons each) with a single trackball in the center. That would cover 99% of the games I wish to play. I figure if I can get around to building the control panel I will work on the rest of the enclosure whether it be a full stand up or just a pedestal.

You are correct sir. It is more about seeing if I can do it. I already have 3 candies( x2 Crown cwc-201 cabs & an MV-U4 from Ken). What bums me out about Ken is that he keeps jacking up his prices. He is charging $800 for the same cab that I paid $450 for. I do understand that you can't just go down to the local store and buy a candy cab, but still... Guess thats why I would like to take a stab at building my own. A combination of seeing if I can and maybe do it a little less expensive then other methods of cab acquisition.
