Mainstream hates SvC Chaos?

Everytime I go to play Capcom vs. SNK 2 at the Student Union(I'm really not that good at it), there is normally tons of people gathered around it, I asked quite a few people hanging around if they liked SvC Chaos, most of them said "the graphics look like crap" or "it sucks" (Loopz, that means it's your time to chime in!!) or something to that effect.

There are, however, people who like it for what it is. I personally can't say whether it's the best game ever or worst game ever or even somewhere inbetween since I still haven't had a chance to play it, but it looks like I'll get the chance to play it this weekend. What I mainly wanted to ask was if the mainstream just thinks it sucks or it's just UCF?

It's broken. Everything about it.

People who play fighting games don't want to play a broken game (yet they play MvC2....)

Simple as that.

Well, when I play it, I'll give my own opinion on it, but I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see me agree with you.

I used to play the game just twice a week just for the heck of it at the Student Union, but ever since the lock has been busted, we've been getting free play. Teaches the damn operators right for repairing a House Of The Dead light and it goes out two days later and refuse to fix Street Fighter Alpha 3, Marvel vs. Street Fighter and CvS2 joysticks and buttons!!

Not to mention Roll Cancelling, which so many excuse
by saying it just changes how the game plays, rather
than admitting that it makes CvS2 more broken than
SvC could ever possibly be...

I think the Xbox live part helped make CVS2 more popular in the mainstream, even though some felt it should have sold better.

Roll Canceling is fucking HARD to do. Even masters of the game can't do it 100%, barely even 75% of the time, especially in the heat of battle when you're playing another good character.

Sure, CvS2 has characters that have easy abusable normals, like Sagat and Blanka, and others with insane recovery time, like Cammy, but that doesn't make the game broken. They're very beatable, no doubt about it. Some characters have bad matchups with them though, but it's like that in all fighters.

CvS2 is a better game than SvC. SvC needs to polish a lot of stuff in the sequel and come back with a strong game like Capcom did. SvC is still tons of fun though. I'm enjoying it immensely.

Well I said this in a SNK-Capcom thread pretty much talking about the same thing.

I've noticed some people saying it's "so broken it's crap" or "Yes it's THAT bad" or "It;'s so unplayable it's not fun." And that's NOT true. Maybe it is for some people who are spoiled with games like CVS2 but it just isn't for me.

Does the game have it's technical flaws? Yes, I won't deny that. Should it stop people from playing it? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I firmly stand by the argument that what SVC lacks in solid gameplay they mke up in creativity and originality. And what I mean by that is the roster of characters (Playing as Zero is fun as all hell), the intro's and the surprising secret bosses.

EDIT: It was quite popular at the arcade I was playing at. People definetely enjoyed it there. They also had a Multi-slot MVS with KoF 96, 98,99,2000,2001, and 2002 for ONLY 25 cents which got a lot of play as well.

SVC is "playable" no doubt. I found myself playing it quite a couple of times but once I got to Shin Akuma, I just didn't want to play anymore. He's one cheap bastard! He has unlimited supers and he'll use his gou-shoryureppa dm everytime up close and it'll always hit you because it has some sort of invincible effect. That's one thing I hate about SNK's gameplay. They make the supers have an invincible effect at the start up of supers so all people have to do is just come close, and use the invincible effect and hit you with the supers....and these are LEVEL 1 supers! In CVS2, level 1 supers can be easily interrupted and it takes good timing to pull it off without getting hit out of it. And as you progress to level 2/3, the more powerful and invincible you super becomes which makes sense and is much better. Anyhow, I just don't feel the need to play the game anymore after I've had a good amount of time with it. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. Everything about the game is just barely "average" so why would you just want to play an average game? I hope playmore improves alot of the stuff in SVC2.

I enjoy SvC: Chaos just as much as I enjoy CvS2. Both have their flaws, but man they're a helluva lot of fun to play.

I still remember last Sunday at the Vegas meetup when one of the best CvS2 players got pissed off at SvC and stormed out of the arcade with his friend bitching, "Man that game sucks!"

His friend tells him, "You think it sucks because you don't know how to play it."

Dash no Chris looked up from his NGPC, "Thank you!"

Maybe it's just me, but isn't this argument getting old?

If you like the game, fine. Play it and enjoy what will probably be one of the last Neo games ever made.

If you hate it, go back to playing CvS2 or KOF 98 or Garou or VF4 Evo or whatever it is you enjoy.

Personally, I don't like SvC. But there are too many fighting games out there to argue over which one is the best. Every fighting game ever made has flaws of some kind. It's just a question of whether or not you can accept and work around them.

My main problem with this title and alot of other NEO titles is the fact that lots of mainstream new age gamers dismiss them simply b/c of their high price marks or lack of graphical power. A friend of mine wont even touch any of the KoF titles simply b/c they have and i quote him as saying "Super Nintendo Graphics" but he will spend all day playing half ass bullshit like MVC 2 and thats not even correct.

If this is mainly directed at me...

Basically, I just want as many opinions as possible. But if you really think is getting old, think of the actual forum you are in once again.

Plus, as I mentioned above I still have not played SvC Chaos.

I haven't played it either, but you can just TELL how broken it is. GCFS takes hardly ANY bar, air throws are crazy, guile is beast with him hardly having to charge back to throw sonic boom and most of the secret characters are broken too.

It'd be alright, in my eyes, if GCFS took like 1 "stock" of your bar, and guile + the secret characters were fixed.

Have you ever played any SNK fighters? If so then you'd realize that nearly ALL SNK end bosses are cheap. Also, he doesn't have unlimited supers, and supers AREN'T invincible at start up, that's hardly the case. I've stopped a super with a weak jab before. Everytime I read a post by you about this game it's like you've never played it, and that's nearly the case. Sounds to me like someone needs to brush up on their gameplay, especially if getting beat makes you lose interest.

I played it in Japanese arcades a bunch. I just got tired of people abusing characters like Geese. SNK should have really tested out those secret characters.

Probably good one player though!! :)

They just don't understand that the game is using 13 year old hardware. Also I would like to see them try to beat Shin Mr Karate without losing a round. Now thats skill right there. Shin Rugal ain't got sh*t on him.

When I went to play it, the game had the biggest draw in the house. Maybe 8-9 people consistently crowded around it. Not bad for a neo game I thought.

I never really noticed the game being "broken"; I wish those who claim it is would elaborate instead of explaining with one statement.

Allthough I never encountered Zero or Geese (who seem to spur the comment above) I found the gameplay nice. It seemed to chug along with a nice, satisfying timing.

Geese's infinite is pretty easy to do if you can dash in very well.

Stand C->F+D->rush in->Stand C->F+D->rush in...repeat.

This is a little off topic, but the UCF union arcade is never in good shape. Almost 2/3 of the games have something wrong with them. I see this starting to happen in many arcades
