I'm curious, anyone have a magician Lord insert where it's too long for the old soft case? I bought a game and manual loose a few years back and bought an insert recently, the insert seems to be about an 1/8 too long. It looks official, I don't believe that there were different size soft cases. Right?

Thanks

Matt

SNK was pretty half ass on their dimensions of plastic on their cases. Some of my games are like that as well.

For something so damn expensive, you'd think they could have done a little better job on the QC. :keke:

Yeah sometimes the clear plastic on the cases rides a little high or low, depending on which end you're looking at. The insert should be perfect for the soft black of the case itself though, if it isn't there's something odd going on. Got a picture?

I knew they were off, because it didn't match the insert I made myself earlier, which is the same size as NAM, RayGuy etc.

I ended up cutting off less than 1/16-1/8 on both sides of the insert, which were "ripping" anyway. I just purchased a "creased" insert from videogamesource from Ebay, because I was tired of my bad paper copy. I used the Magician Lord insert from Southtownhomebrew, which I didn't realize someone did a poor job of cutting and pasting the spine MEG count, logo, etc. back on to the spine. The spine on the "new" insert is still creased, but I've seen worse. If I can find a copy under $60 (ha yea right), I might upgrade.

Thanks

Yes, SNK had slight variations in the height of the soft cases; subsequently with the area in which the insert slides into the case. This resulted in creased inserts (often directly from the factory) for many of their releases.

Many people over the years upon purchasing a used game would simply slice off the tiny creased top layer of the insert, whereby hiding & eliminating the problem.

As someone who works in printing, their qc was fucking awful. I'd be fired if I sent shit to my customers like some of the crap I've seen from snk in my limited experience with them.

But that's what made SNK so badass back in the day. They were too busy bringing the arcade experience home to sweat the small stuff. Didn't people buy AES games at the store like how you'd buy porn, from behind the counter or in the back room? SNK employees were probably snorting crack off the backs of hookers while printing AES case inserts.

Common problem, especially with ADK releases like Thrash Rally or Crossed Swords. Inserts that suffer most are those with a lot of black ink. Prominent example: all dog-tags. After a while they get grey hair, so to speak.

Were certain games always in the same cases? For example, do all copies of Magician Lord have the cases with the lower clear plastic, or is it completely random?

From my experience, it's random, but far more common with earlier soft-case releases.
