I think Silent Running would make my wife's list. She fucking loves that movie. If I want to get her to watch something, all I have to do is say that something in it is like Silent Running.

what's up with people posting shit like Star Wars and then saying (original trilogy) or something.

No you can not count three movies as one. Why do people think this is acceptable.

The only thing acceptable would be Kill Bill, since I consider both volumes to be one movie, just sliced in half.

Hahahah it's been a favorite of mine since I was a little kid. I guess I'm a dirty hippy at heart.

No particular order, but I have tried to narrow it to the films I consistently return to. There are many others that could, on any given day, be listed in this ten. For example:

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
Henry V (Olivier version)
The Proposition
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Hunger
Yojimbo
Ikiru
Le Haine
Dobermann
The Thin Red Line
Metropolis
The Fountain
A History of Violence
Sunshine
Atonement
Zulu
Sexy Beast
The Last of the Mohicans
A Bridge Too Far
American Movie
Blade Runner
Days of Heaven
There Will Be Blood
The list goes on . . .

Man, I forgot to mention so many films... guess I'll have to redo my top-10 list now...

Forget what I've said about not listing too many honorable mentions, it's impossible... ...and I'm going to list some more as well. :D

It would probably take me a whole day to separate just ten from the pack. So many wonderful foreign and indie gems that evolve filmmaking, so many rewatchable American classics, it would just be a massive undertaking. I'll just throw out the Top 5 I can think of that are simply just entertaining and are my most rewatchable movies. Which means they probably aren't as deep as my favorite "best" movies.

1) Borat - a comedy that always makes me laugh no matter how many times I rewatch it, and the most intelligent mainstream comedy I've seen

2) Dawn of the Dead - the remake, not as powerful as the original in its content, but much more entertaining

3) Apocalypto - visceral and beautiful in its imagery, the best Blu-Ray to show people for visual effect

4) Shawshank Redemption - when you can pop in a movie at any time whatsoever, watch it in the background and know exactly whats going on, that's a Top 5 right there

5) Casino - easy way to round out the list with the best mobster movie out there

No order, list changes:

The Social Network
Garden State
No Country for Old Men
The Royal Tenenbaums
Ghost World
V for Vendetta
Rocky
13 Assassins
The Godfather
Dreams

These have been listed because they stayed with me for one reason or another. One scene or one piece of dialogue from each of these will forever remain in my mind.

Yep, I've always thought "Casio" blows "Goodfellas" out of the fucking water. I'm a big Scorsese fan, but "Goodfellas" is actually one of my LEAST favorite movies directed by him.
