Not totally different, and yes, Ryo is very Shoto-ey, but we're talking SF, Hmkay?Wes said:She's not. All of those moves are completely different from the staple shoto moves. She's just a half-breed, and her gameplan is completely different from the standard shotos. If she's a shoto, then Ryo is a shoto, and to an extent, KOF 95 Kyo would also be a shoto.

Wes said:Yes - totally different. Her fireball doesn't travel a full screen, and she has multiple incarnations where sometimes it's just a burst of Ki in her hands that can hit up to three times. Her hurricane kick hits at a curved angle and can tack on an extra hit to knock them down. Her dragon punch hits multiple times, and the fierce one is fucking running for christ's sake. Her normals also resemble nothing from shotos. Face it: you're wrong. Sakura is not a shoto. Ryo and Kyo aren't shotos either, and you missed the point I was making with them as well. Think outside your little bubble, hmkay?
beatifik said:1. this would mean dan is not a shoto either.
2. these are not real people. don't get so worked up about it. jeez.
no prob bro. might as well bring all versions of them to. like evil sakura.soulthug said:Thanks for that.
Forgot about SF EX.
I wasnt including variations of characters, but there is also Mecha Gouki.

Wes said:Dan isn't a shoto; you're right. I'm not getting worked up about it. I know when I'm right.
Yeeeeeep.neo_X7 said:As in Shoto do you mean shotokan karate?
soulthug said:Dan IS a shoto, Sakura IS a shoto,
"Martial Art Style: Shotokan Karate"
Ansatsuken i believe. Basic moves taught the hadoken, shoryuken and tatsumaki senpukkyaku, when they come of age they may learn messatsu-gou-shoryu, messatsu-gou-hadou, tenma-gou-zanku, then further, the technique Gouken surpressed but Akuma embraced, Shungokusatsu (Raging Demon/Instant hell murder)
But then wes, you must say sean is not a shoto, even though he was taught by Ken. Sakura was taught by Ryu. Dan was taught by Gouken. Its all shotokan, like it or not.

Yes Shotokan is a real style of Karate and it was not invented by Capcom.Wes said:Alright everybody, let's put our thinking caps on. Welcome to Street Fighter school: lesson #1:
There is no such thing as shotokan in Street Fighter. Let's get this straight. Shotokan was something completely made up by Capcom USA to describe the style that Ken and Ryu use. However, the term shoto was used by the masses to later describe any guy in a karate uniform in the SF universe. Dan, however, still doesn't apply because he uses "Saikyo." Sean applies because for one, he's in a karate uniform, and two, he has the staple shoto normals and specials with modified hurricane kick.
It's all not shotokan, like it or not.
Sagat is a "muay thai" fighter.Hmkay said:If Dan and Sakura were shotos, then Sagat should be one as well... But I don't think so.

If you want to go this way, you could say Dan is a Saikyo Ryu fighter, etc...neo_X7 said:Sagat is a Mai Tai fighter.
