Great retrospective. I've taken in the first three parts so far and I'm really enjoying it.

Talking about RE series...

I will always remember the first chapter :)

Many experiences and fear happened during playing that game for Elementary School Grade 4 Kid like me in 1996 :) :)

I've still yet to play 4 & 5. I'd love to go back and play everything from the beginning (avoiding 0) before getting to these. I just wish Konami would put out an anniversary compilation for the PS3 of the first three or four games.

It's highly doubtful Konami will be releasing any Resident Evil compilations any tmie soon. But I know you meant Capcom;)

And I think the closest you'll come to that is buying1-Director's Cut, 2 and 3 on PSN.

They really should remake RE 2 and Re 3 a la REmake style. That would give the series a consistent appearance.

OTS/FPS/Classic camera options selectable too. I wonder if all the RE games need remakes except RE5 for the PS3 and 360 consoles which would look real awesome! A guy can dream. :)

Ever seen the Resident Evil/Biohazard pachinko slot machine's opening intro's graphics which looked badass. :D

Haha, if you're gonna dream, dream big.

Remake all the games in the series to play like RE 4/5 but retain their storylines, soundtracks and sound effects. Re-record the dialogue for 2 and 3. Get the current voice actors for the characters to reprise their characters and BY GOD, DO NOT LET ALYSON COURT EVER STOP BEING CLAIRE REDFIELD!!!

Allow for full 2 player co-op, free roaming in independent zones. Require some of the puzzles to be solved only when players are in entirely different zones, acting in conjunction with one another. Force players to be cut off from one another from time to time, not even allowed to voice chat, to heighten the tension and isolation during those parts. Require some of these isolated tasks to take place within a certain time frame where both players race against the clock or you have to go back to a checkpoint and try again-remember, IN DIFFERENT ZONES.

No quick time events or vehicle stages in campaign mode.

4 player Mercenaries mode in all the zones specific to RE, RE 2, RE 3 and RE: CV where the game saves interact with one another: the Mercenaries characters in any game you own are selectable for any of the Mercenaries stages in any of the games. Players can host matches so that even if a player doesn't have one of the games, he can play in a match hosted by a player that DOES own the game. I.E. A Resident Evil owner hosting a Spencer Mansion Mercenaries for a player that doesn't have RE, but has RE 2.

Realistic? Not at all. But we're just playing pretend here, after all.

Wow, total brain fart on my part. I was completely engrossed in thinking about the Konami Contra/Castlevania PC collection and wishing that sucker would come out for the consoles in some physical form with a bunch of extras.

Capcom's put out PS2 arcade compilations in the past, and even though they have the PSN downloads, I still wish they would put out a master physical compilation with a bunch of extras.

Of course, I'd be totally on board.

Since we're still in 'dream mode' here, I'd ask for th RE 1 on this compilation to be:

Original soundtrack
Uncensored cutscenes
Director's Cut options

I'd also ask for the compilation to include a finished build of Resident Evil 1.5 so us diehard fans could finally try the game and see what they originally had in mind. I know the game was close to completion when Mikami scrapped it, so they could jut finish it. Probably wouldn't even be all that hard to do.

I've just finished watching Resident Evil: Degeneration (CGI movie). It's quite cool, some scenes look very real, even though others look like they've been ripped straight from an console or PC game. Typical story, typical outcome, typical cliffhanger at the end. Enjoyed it anyway.

Despite its shortcomings, I'm convinced that CGI is the way to go for this kind of thing. It's the only way to do the series justice.

I use to have such a huge heart for the RE series, but I feel like the direction that they took after 3 just wasn't the way I wanted it to go. I wanted the games to stay scary. I understand why they kind of took the way they did, but they could have done it better. I like to be freaked out when I play, but RE doesn't really have that charm. I LOVED RE and RE 0 for Cube but the remake was way too hard IMO. Here is what RE:4 was (and should have been)

SCARY AS SHIT. WHY DIDN'T THIS HAPPEN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I will also say 4 was a great game, with a SHITTY plot.

Maybe because that particular game doesn't suit RE either. A haunted house? Come on man. We're dealing with a virus outbreak, which is mutating anything it touches, not fucking spiritual beings. That game was scrapped for a reason.

I suppose I'll always wonder what that version of RE4 would have been like, I remember when they first announced it and I was incredibly hyped for it. That trailer did look cool, but also a little too Silent Hill maybe. Too bad we'll never get to play it, just like the original build of RE2 that I've always wanted to try. Of course RE2 didn't look nearly as good in its original form as what we ended up with.

RE4 came out and quickly became possibly my favorite game of all time, so I can't really complain about it too much. I'll be the first to admit the story is pretty goofy at times, but the game is just flat out fun. One of the most well designed games ever made and just an obvious labor of love on Mikami's part. You can tell he wanted everything to be absolutely perfect and he got pretty damn close IMO.

Its actually been a couple years since I played it, maybe I'll drag out my GC tomorrow...

Thats true, but they arn't really zombies anymore. Which is not scary. They could have made it to where a company was making a cure for the outbreak which caused people to hallucinate and BAM! Resident (paranormal) Evil. I mean it really sucks that they scrapped something that looked so amazing, its just not fair, hell they could have pulled a Devil May Cry and made another series, or make it another side story to Resident Evil, I think a lot of people would be into it.

Yeah, so they could replace it with a game that featured A GIANT ROBOT driven by Tattoo from Fantasy Island. Much better.

I've only finished 1 and 2. After that I was kind of done with the characters and the story. I've read what the plot became and it seems really goofy and campy.

Capcom should leave that series as is and work on brinigng back its premiere horror game. Dino Crisis

The only parasite people I find scary are the ones that use chainsaws. But yeah, zombies trying to take a bite off you is scarier than parasite infected people taking a chop at you any day.

And for some reason the Mercenaries was more fun on RE4 than on RE5. Played the hell out of it too. Neck breaking with Hunk was very enjoyable.

just like others have said in the thread, i give capcom a lot of credit for changing RE as dramatically as they did for 4 and 5. that was a huge thing for the company and it was released to major critical acclaim... however,

i like 1,2 and 3 the most.

One scene certainly wasn't enough to deter me from that game, as stupid as it was.

A parasitic invasion is closer to a virus outbreak than a haunted house.
