Awful news. Right when I was about to start marathoning Star Trek, too.

First Bones, then Scotty, and now Spock are dead. That leaves Kirk (age 83), Sulu (age 77), Uhura (age 82), and Chekov (age 78).

Nimoy revealed that he has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). On Twitter, he said: "I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP [Live Long and Prosper)].[60] On February 19, 2015, Nimoy was rushed to UCLA Medical Center for severe chest pains after a call to 911. According to accounts, he had been in and out of hospitals for the "past several months."[61]

Nimoy died on February 27, 2015 in his Bel Air home from final complications from COPD, according to his wife Susan. He was 83 years old.[1]

Shroom: Just for the record, I wasn't debating the veracity of his death.

Poignant to the very end. Never cared much for Star Trek but Leonard always seemed like a classy motherfucker. Live long and prosper indeed.

My friend sent me a text this afternoon with the news. :(

Really sad to hear, but my wife and I both thought he was older than Shatner; turns out Kirk is older (by 4 days). Guess Leonard just showed his age more.

RIP, Galvatron. You will be missed.

Nimoy smoked for decades. That's probably why he looked older than Shatner.

Yeah read this earlier today. Really sucks, he always seemed like a very good person. There was an article someone posted from the 60s where a girl wrote a letter in to a magazine about being mixed in race. Nimoy wrote a huge response back that was amazing. I loved his appearance in the new Star Trek movies and Fringe, he had such a presence about him.

I'm rarely effected by celebrity deaths...but this is one that does. I grew up watching his exploits in ST and the ST films...
