Hi guys,

I've asked this in another thread, but haven't got a response to it. Perhaps my question needs an individual topic.

Many of you here love LB (particularly 2) as well as the SS series. Is it possible to say which is better? Are there individual SSes which are better than LB1 or 2?

I have a preference for LB2, but that's just me. I'd like your opinions on this.

Or am I comparing apples & oranges?

I don't know... they're pretty different, all in all. The only real similarity is that it's a weapons fighter. So, basing the argument on that, I think Last Blade is a million times better than Samurai Shodown. Just my .02 though.

I would have to say Last Blade 2 although I haven't played any of the Samurai Spirits games seriously enough.

Why is SS *that* much better? I'm curious why you think so, because right now, my opinion is more or less the same as Aaron's.

Then again, on further consideration, I wonder whether I've asked the equivalent of "Hey, which is better, Street Fighter 2 or Virtua Fighter?"

I like SS more for it's "Samurai" feel, LB just doesn't have that and it's probably because of the time frame in which those games are set in.

Both are terrific must-have games, but my heart and soul belong to the Samurai Shodown series.

It's pretty tough to pick something as being "better" about it, because both games excel in almost every way. I'd feel like I were insulting the LB series if I pointed to something in the Sam Sho series that's better about it. :D

I've got SS1-3 and LB1 and 2, I personally prefer LB series, it plays more like King of Fighters but with swords and stuff and I like KoF. Samurai Spirits is cool but I've never practiced enough to get into it the game is very punishing to players jumping from other fighters its fairly slow and the counter damage is massive so it frustrates me at times, I can see why experieced players like it though the style and music and stuff is quality.

Yes, I agree with you. LB is just faster and more frenzied than SS...

I like SS, believe me, I first played it in the arcade long ago, when it first came out. But I honestly don't see why people go ape shit over that series.

because SS has the best chara designs of any series available, 2 or 3d. too bad the games just dont match the cool chara designs, the series really hasnt gotten any better since SS2, just little upgrades, some for the better some for worse. they should have matched the designs with awesome sprites and animation to boot, and letz not forget gameplay. thats probably why they brought out LB, since evrything was better in LB, except the chara designs that is.

It is really tought to compare Samurai Spirits and Last Blade. Samurai Spirits is more of a true weapons combat game. Much more strategy, a much smaller margin for error, and the fights are always on edge. When the tide of a battle can turn on one fierce slash cause someone left themselves open, that's intense.

Last Blade is much more combo oriented. Like stated before, KOF with swords. Fantastic game, very fast, very fun to play, but I don't think matches share the same intensity of Samurai Spirits battles.

For me Samurai Spirits

Rating NEO games are so hard cause there are just so many gems :D

Hit it right on the head man. SS is more strategic, you have to be careful, and put a lot of forethought before you commit to a move or your ass gonna pay BIG TIME. It's a different type of thrill then the LB series.

LB is about fast, pretty combos. It's definately an adrenaline rush to do those combos, just, like I said a different type of thrill.

Big Shady's and Genjuro1's replies are exactly what I was looking for, thanks.

Looks like I'll probably go looking for LB2. Next stop for me is to checkout a 'which is the best SS' thread...

If there was ever a last blade tenka then I bet it would've kicked samurai shodown series ass. But right now I would prefer the samurai shodown series because of the characters.
