You know his move where he spins the ball behind himand then hit you with it(back, foward+p....though now its a motion....well anyways)well i gues that no longer has block anmietion.....yeah thats stupid who gonna get hit by that move now.....sigh..

Well this is sorta little....but i guess kyo oniyaki(dp+p) is apparently very weak.....especially the lp version......sigh thats stupid...why should a chacaracter have a anti-air if it can't knock you out of the air????.....if only it was 98 with block anamations......sigh the good ol' days. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

Yeah, Angel-only.

What they don't say on the page is that it looks like a crouch-cancel infinite, much like Ryu's from SFZ3. Look for Kyo's extra crouch in between juggles. That technique resets the allowable juggle hits...sort of a nifty bug. Looks like some programmer dropped the ball. ^^

Most every fighting game has infinites and 100-percenters. Some have...more than their fair share, like KOF2K. From what I've seen, I think they've curbed that in 2K1. They have some otg strikers, but the damage scaling is keeping things from getting out of hand (like they did in 2k).

However...I hate this game already.

And it's not in the combos, or the gameplay.

Angel, New Athena, K9999, Mei Li...

...the art is terrible.

And I'm not talking about the conceptual stuff. I scrutinized their animations. It's HARDLY up to SNK quality. I'd rather watch KOF94 than those characters again.

Anything new that "Eolith" added in makes me cringe. For example:

Move animations. Mei-Li's now has Dong-Hwan-like kicks...except while Dong-Hwan was well-animated, hers have all of three frames of animation. Her houou-kyaku-type rushing super looks terrible to me...it's like watching a slide show. She goes from a double-heeled kick into something totally different, with no in-between frames. Ick. Athena shows how much better her previous incarnations look than her current one with her new special...all it does is give me depression and nostalgia for something this game doesn't have.

ALL the new standing animations. The perspective is odd. Angel looks lopsided in the breast department, and her stance looks horribly imbalanced. Mei-Li looks disproportioned and again, imbalanced, with that backward hero-stance lean. Foxy looks imbalanced (see a trend?), and contrary to the Mei-Li slide show, it almost looks like there's too many UNNECESSARY frames thrown in her standing animation.

The backgrounds. Two symmetrical Kabukis waving their hair? What drugs were they on? And then there's the horribly sexist backgrounds...scantily clad, poorly-drawn background girls, spaced at even intervals? Plus the crowds look sparse...maybe KOF isn't drawing as many fans as it used to. I'm not surprised, with the way this one looks. All the backgrounds have a horribly flat look to them...no depth at all. The spectators animate poorly, or unnecessarily, like with Foxy, and just look bad. I liked SF2's backgrounds better, and they're almost 10 years old.

The new supers. I already mentioned Mei-Li's vacation slide super, but then there's Tetsuo. I got enough of people spewing flesh dough out of their arms in Akira. This just demeans KOF even further. KOF is NOT Akira. I don't care who had the fetish to put in a CARBON-COPY of Tetsuo in there. It demeans the whole series. And then Iori...someone who was supposed to be evilly cool...and now...

...now we know what it would sound like if someone TICKLED Iori Yagami.

That, in of itself, is a crime. Turn on the sound for his new super. That sounds like giggling Iori to me.

Foxy's super...recycled striker animation + Kasumi's super in brown + an explosion. It may be the most pathetic super of all time, especially in the damage effect it has.

Moving on...

The win screen. Here's where they stuck the majority of that painfully bad concept art. It has cheap coloring...going for a half-assed version of the MOTW look. Ignis's win screen pose looks like somebody gave Kain from MotW a new outfit. And the win quotes have hit an all-time low...Kula calling up Diana? Ehhh... And I suppose now would be a good time to mention the story of the game...it solves nothing. No new developments, nothing we didn't already know. They could have done something grand with NESTS, but they didn't. It peters out like we expected...no twists, no nothing. I think the people that had great plans for the story arc were hired by others when SNK broke up.

And lastly, the opening intros...well, the FEW they have. I wish Ramon were real, because I'd beat the LIVING SHIT out of him the next time he said "Miss Vanessa". I've never heard anything more annoying in my life. And Kyo and Iori..."What color is your flame?" Not only is the art for this pathetic little display ugly, but it only cements the suspicion we've had for years that the Kyo+Iori yaoi doujinshi had basis in the real KOF storyline. Well, maybe not...but the dialogue is the most stupid yet. After this, I don't really find Kyo and Iori threatening anymore...just comical. Which reminds me...

I feel like this isn't even a KOF game...look at 94-99, and compare it to this. By design, it's radically, painfully different. KOF is about style, and story, where most fighting games have little to none of that. Hell, SNK is about those same things.

SNK, for now, is missing. Even if it comes back in name, the ideals and creativity HAVE to be there. I think it had already left the building, circa KOF 2k.

P.S. - I wanted this to be mostly negative, because I think, since KOF2k, the series has been terrible overall. However, that doesn't mean there aren't some good parts in both KOF2k and 2k1. I found Ramon, Vanessa, and Hinako cool additions in 2k (although Ramon's new 2k1 intro makes me sick). I liked Zero, I like O.Zero, and I like Lin's intro with him. And lastly, Ignis, while bearing resemblance to Kain, is a decent boss. If it wasn't for the whip in his super causing the opponent to skip a character length on the screen, I'd like him overall...especially with that cool kissing thing. So please, take all this with a grain of salt. I don't like KOF2k, and I don't like KOF2k1. And I probably won't play them ever again. But I'm not attacking anyone that does, or thinks differently. If you like them, I wish you many great victories over your arcade opponents. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I didnt know people were posting about KOF 2K1 here...anyone have any questions about the game, I've been playing it for about 2 weeks now and I'll be happy to answer questions if I can.

BTW...IT IS NOT I REPEAT NOT MEI LI...In the game her name is spelled MAY LEE.

KoF hasn't been the same since '98. Since the whole NESTS storyline, strikers, and counter/armor mode which was supposed to bring new life into the series didn't appeal to people as it seemed. I'll admit that the gameplay in KoF2k is as broken as Marvel vs Capcom 2. Whenever I look at that nasty art for KoF2k1, I'm like that is shit, they still should have Shinkiro doing the art. I'll say this though, KoF is KoF. I haven't played 2k1 yet, but I would imagine that the gameplay is as broken as 2k. I guess I'll have to wait and see for myself. Till then, I'll have to keep on dreaming.

i agree with kim, many of KOF players had to adjust when the strikers appeared but oh well.

as for 2k1, if this is the last KOF, it definitely went out i say.

Yes chang is not a charge character anymore but you see they have taken out his block anamations!!!!....hmmm.....take time to think...yeah you see what im saying it doesn't matter if its a command now cuz you can just poke him out of all his moves now.......

Yeah kim dosen't have the comet cruncher anymore.....which makes me really pissed cuz i have to use that move...its one of my faves and it goes in excelent with a little coner trap i have for kim....unfortanatly even if he did have this move it would suck because kims charges are longer..(if you play as kim....at least as i do...you will no that you need your charge as fast as possible and ready on command the even the slightest bit longer charge will fuck you up...) example in other kof games say i do a ducking lk,lk then the opponent is croching so i low super jump over ther body and cross them up with a lp(which also from what i here is weakend)then i land and do a ducking lk,lp, comet cruncher(or sometimes a crouching HK then comet cruncher....im just giving examples as i don't want to get into a full stratagy section about kim...though that would be fun...but perhaps another day.)

And of course that would work because you see kims charges are like....ummmm....fast and i need those fast charges and with out them i am seruiosly would be in trouble......

Yeah, Kim without his Ryuusei Raku/comet crusher is like Terry without Power charge. Kasumi is a goddess and a moster at the same time. Man, those counters were too much for me to handle in KoF2k. Who they replace her with, oh yeah, it was Xiang Fei. Just like they replaced Jhun Hoon with May Lee.

About Chang not being a damn charge character. OMG he is annoying as hell with his ball spinning thing. One person that I played against kept on doing it over and over. I think that move should have no hitting frames on the ground b/c everytime I tried to hit him without using a slide I got hit and it does MASSIVE DAMAGE!

i see.....but with the ball spin move now being a motion don't you think that will proove to be his weakness??...you see now that its is a motion do you have like control over it.....i dout that you would.....because you used to be able to just keep pressing punch and the move will continue but now im guessing that it is now only a set amount of time. So also when you want to stop you won't be able to....and also the one move were he swings the ball behind him and then launchs it foward well without block anamations this move may be useless....a simple poke and you have knocked him out of it.


Well anyways so how is kim and kyo in the game?

about chang ball...ok..you can still continue to swing the ball as long as you keep on pushing the button and its just the start up motion that changed. ALSO HE CAN WALK FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS....his ball swining properties are still the same. heck he can even stop it by pushing ABC together. And also that ball move that had guard point...no one uses it anymore. I'm REALLY REALLY scared of chang players.

Kim: well kim is actually good still. Now his Down B, Down A, F+A, then Super has to be comboed off the second hit off the F+A so you have all the time in the world to do it now. Also that combo you guys saw with him, Down, Down B, then Sand watever move and then super requires 2 stock since that is a super cancel. So no Striker no combo. I'm not sure if he lost his comet crusher since I've never seem anyone do that move and I havent tried it out yet. Oh yeah almost forgot Kim's Down Down B move will hit fallen opponents (I mean opponent on the ground)

Some things about kyo: well I think everyone knows but now you can do the uppercut after his chain combo's. you know the QCB+A/C combos. Well, this is my opinion about kyo and also applies to iori. If you play a 4 player team KYO AND IORI ARE EXTREMELY WEAK. They barely do any damage b/c of damage reduction in the game. Though Kyo/Iori may have gotten a few more combo's unless you play them with strikers they are HELLA WEAK. Also, kyo's grabbing SDM is pretty good in waking up turtles, but beware IT WILL NOT GRAB characters that are small and are ducking. ie)bao, choi, hinako, and even xiangfei.

really?? hmmm its worth trying if i see a 2k1 machine. hmmm probably ill try her and probably she could takeover kasumis spot on my team in 2k1.

btw, whats mei lees connection with the korean team? is she jai hoons girlfriend, the one where jai hoon wins and she comes out and gives jai hoon a kettle of water? is she one of kims students? etc. etc. etc.

May Lee is one of Kim's students. I still don't see why they got rid of Jhun Hoon. The man was good at what he did best, scared the shit out of Chang and Choi. That's tough love/reforming people for ya!

same here, why is it now that every KOF team has to have atleast one girl?

well you have an all female team and the korean team was an all guy team from 99 and up.
