First of all, I'm a big fan of kof series. My favorite KOF game is 96 follow by 98 and 2001.

Now I picked my usual 3 characters which are Terry, Ryo, and Kyo. I right away got to the last boss undefeated and I almost beat him. I put another quarter in and I beat the crap out of the guy. The ending was stupid and it ended unexpectely with no credits shown. There was no real challange involved in this game.

This is the worse KOF game that I had ever played since 95. Terry bogard no longer looks cool, all the voices changed for the worse voiceover ever, and the music and graphics sucked!

And it seems that this game hasn't been review yet on the reviews section of this site.

If you want to see good endings you need to beat kusanagi with a DM or LDM. If you do that you will fight against Mukai in the final battle and you will see the good endings after kicking his ass[/I][/I]

They definitely changed Terry a bit for this one and that threw me off for a while. Really, though, I like the Garou look better (the red, white, & blue always looked sort of fruity to me) and once I got used to the moves, I like the new version just fine.

Most of the later mvs fighting games you have to do a special move or beat it a certain way in order to get a good ending. In the case of KOF2k3 you have to beat kusanagi with a DM or LDM. This game is good unless your going for the old school KOF style, then of course you'll be a bit biased against in general (I'm such a hypocrite).

PS. The arranged tracks for this game are actually pretty good.

Change doesn't always equal lower quality, and yeah, 2k3 is no 95 nor 2k1, but that was the whole point when SNKP came up with 2k3, they wanted to give the series a new spin.

Say what you will, but I think it was a brave decision. I mean, since 2k2 was hugely successful, they could have made a 2k2.5 just to be on the safe side... perhaps some are so used to this common way of milking a popular game franchise that they are not able to really appreciate new stuff anymore.

2k3's engine has its flaws, but it also has some awesome elements like the more advanced tag combos and overall quite interesting new movesets for some charas that make it worth playing IMO.

I have some visual gripes with 2k3, backgrounds are a mixed bag, from very good (old world street corner) to downright disgusting (steam engine/train station), but that does not change the fact 2k3 is a fun game.

So... don't give up too soon, and don't forget to also try the new charas, some of them are quite interesting to use.

Well, I'm an school KOF player. I consider KOF94-KOF98 the classic era, KOF99-2001 the mix era, and KOF2002-2003 the new era. What is DM or LDM?

A DM is a Despiration Move, or a super move.
An LDM is a Leader Despiration Move, because it can only be done by the leader you choose for your team.

XI exists and rocking (!) because of 2k3.

The tag system is better now on XI and I do feel XI does feel abit like 2k3.

So pay respect where it's due.;)

I really liked 2K3, the fact that you can attack and then tag and then attack and keep the combo going is damn fun.

Mukai is one annoying boss but one hell of a cool one.

Is the leader the the last guy who I can never tag till my first two guys are down? So is the DM the special moves that can be easily executed or is it something else?

The Leader is the first character you select at the character select screen.
You select the leader at the order select screen with (I think it's C, Square on the PS2 port).

You can tag with foreward or back and (BC) for first character and (CD) for the third character.

As for what a DM is, I refer you to the gameplay glossary, as it better explains it than I can. http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65938

Edit: My stick was set wrong, so I've corrected it to the best I can figure.

King of fighters 2003 is a decent addition to the series (I think more capcom then snk fans are more appreciative for this) in the sense that it brings a new storyline and new gameplay to the mix, I give it a B overall. I do agree that I would still be playing several of the older ones though.

OH DAMN. Kof95 is the best KOF I've ever played.

2k3 rocks cause Ash is great. I always played Remy in Third Strike and it's nice to get an opprotunity to play him in KOF.

Plus the Griffon rocks. Too bad the whole gameplay thing is a bit messed up, but KoFXI is soooo cool. Can't wait for the killer ports!

2k3 is a decent game in itself. KOF2K3 was made in a time when games like Soul Calibur and Tekken were stealing the stage and 2D games were considered inferior. Of course there are people who will always bash it because it is different from any previous KOF. They stole a tag system, They deleted my favorite character(s), it doesn't use the same commands. so what. this is actually the first KOF that I have ever played and I still love playing it (I even had the guy install it at my school:buttrock: ). I don't understand why people have to bash it because they changed the game. Change is inevitable, deal with it. For you guys that still think that this game sux ass:angry:

I personally enjoy KOF2000, and KOF2002. I just love how SNK made a stage just for Mexico. If I get me a Neo-Geo soon, My first game will be KOF2003. I'll see how well it plays :chimp:

I don't really like the tag system at all since it no longer feels like KOF. KOFXI looks worse than 2003 since most of the old characters were taken out and the teams for this game sucks (worst team combo ever!) Its all about the classic characters in KoF never on the new characters which most of them look gay and uninteresting.

I reckon the new characters are pretty cool, Oswald looks mad.
Sure malin and momoko aren't the best characters in KOF but they are alright, seriously though, if we had the same old KOF over and over again I'd pretty much give up on KOF, it's good that we have some change with the game system and characters.

One day SNKP will make a fighter that will truly rival the likes of Garou ect but until that day, let's enjoy what they make, who else is doing a better job in the 2D world?

Well, who else does A job in the 2D world?

I think it's useless to whine about "bad" changes... if you want a game that plays and feels like, for example '97, with all the characters of '97 an no new ones, why don't you just play '97 and stop complaining about a different game for being different?
