I've been playing this on mame for the better part of the last two hours and I check here to see this.. ha.
I've owned the boardset, so if you need help with it, let me know. Keep that HD nice and safe. Especially cool and away from the PSU and monitor.
$200+ is absurd to pay for it, especially considering how MANY kits of KI can be found. I can pick them up for about $100-$125 easily.
Do yourself a favor and buy a replacement HD and BootRom chip, because you're eventually going to need it and you can do an quickie KI->KI2 conversion with it.
KI is probably my favorite of all time, but the graphics aren't as impressive as I remember them. Still fun as hell. I can remember nights in my dorm room where my roomates and I would play this until the wee hours of the morning on the SNES port. (I ruled with Spinal and Cinder.)
I dominate with Tusk on KI2, but the game is a REAL letdown. The look and feel of the original was badass and KI2 just made it into a campy 60's claymation Sci-Fi game.. like Land Of the Lost the fighting game.
KI is so deep, though.. much deeper than anyone will EVER give it credit for and I think it rivals the "deepest" fighters in complexity, fun and strategy. I'm surprised no haters came in yet to tell you it's a button mashing game. If they ever came over and played, I'd teach them a lesson about button mashing in a KI game. I really destroyed on this game in the tourney scene locally, I was really sad when the competition died to Tekken and SF3.
Long live Killer Instinct!
