It's Star Wars George's ball, and he's taking it home.

According to THIS article, George Lucas isn't going to make any more Star Wars movies because he was "hurt by harsh feedback from some fans about the prequels".

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. I do like the original trilogy but I've never liked Lucas' constant re-editing and re-releasing of said movies. The new movies do nothing for me.

That being said, this is a bitch move on Lucas' part. The man has more money than God and can pretty much do whatever he wants, but he's going to pack it in because of what some angry nerds said on the internet? Whatever. Haters gonna hate and all.

If the man doesn't feel like making movies, fine. But don't go out like a punk and lay the blame on angry members of your fanbase.

Uh, thank God?

Taking his ball home would mean not licensing the property any more, which will never happen.

What would you expect him to do, though?

I mean, yes, I wish he would allow others to make a new film. But Star Wars had a very specific vibe, that came from a really specific time and
place...and it may be time to just let the whole thing go. I love it...but until someone else gets a crack at it, it's kinda done.

The people who made the SWTOR (MMO) CG movies have created Star Wars lore far greater than anything Lucas could come up with at this point. Let them make a feature film.

I don't think he would catch as much heat as he does if he would just stop revising the original 3. On the other hand, he created it and has every right to do whatever he wants with it. But to say you're walking away from making movies because of what some anonymous fans posted on the internet is, well, bullshit. It smacks of 8th grade temper tantrum.

I think the new movies are ass and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was complete garbage. Should George care if I don't like them? Fuck no. Should George care what I say about them? Fuck no.

Wish they'd make an animated movie about the adventures of Kyle Katarn. That guy was a fucking bad-ass.

Suddenly I'm imagining a film noir/jedi crossover with a han solo style PI...

All he needs to do is release a DVD/BRD of the first three movies without anything extra. Is that too hard to ask? If he would give people the freedom of choice to pick what version of the movie they'd want to watch there'd be no problems. Sure the prequels sucked, but we can choose to ignore them, but if I walk into a Best Buy or any other shop that sells movies I can't buy the original versions. Is that so wrong? Just give the people what they want and they'll eat it up. If he really did destroy them to make the special editions then he's worse then the people he spoke about in congress that just wanted to colorize movies.

I will give George one bit of respect. I was watching the interview he did on the Daily Show about Red Tales. Regardless if you like the movie or not (The CGI looks WAY too much like a video game) what he said was amazing. He said all of the major studios didn't want to make the film because it had an all black cast. They said it wouldn't be marketable in other counties with an all black cast. So if Lucas didn't throw in all his money, the film would have never gotten made. And if it did it would have been a shitty low budget film that Taylor Perry makes year after year.

My issues with Lucas go way beyond just his constant editing of the classic trilogy. There is a litany of insulting shit he's done to fans of his IPs over the years. And he does it all with a really smarmy attitude that completely pisses in their faces.

It's obvious the dude wants people to love him. But just like any control freak, he wants people to love him exactly as he is without him having to change anything about himself or meeting anhone halfway. His continual attempts to 'fix' the original trilogy and to legitimize the prequel trilogy by ramming production after production based on it down everyone's throats are simple proof of this.

But like a jilted lover, he has to keep giving his platitudes with haughty rebuttals and subtle jabs. He can't just say 'I'm sorry to everyone that loved the original trilogy' without adding 'but I can't just make movies for the fans.'

Ir probably burns him up that KOTOR, TOR, the Dark Forces games and the Star Wars: Legacy comic all blow the prequel trilogy out of the water.

Here's a clue, George. They're better because they are about the IDEA of Star Wars, lovingly constructed by brilliant creators and made into reality through hard work, dedication and, mostly, by a committee of people (not one guy that everyone else is afraid to speak up to because he pays them and might fire them from his prestige film company) bouncing ideas off each other and discarding the bad ones. Because in the end, that's the only thing that matters.

Hey guys real quick - when does the Old Republic MMO take place in the timeline so far as KotOR1 and KotOR2 are concerned? Before/After?

After, by a couple hundred years.

I never played KotOR2...so the Sith get whooped in that game (presumably), and TOR MMO begins with their return? Cool.

PS: When you gonna do the write-up on your impressions of the game mang :emb: :D

Well, actually there is an interesting debate on who actually "owns" art (not ownership in in the copyright sense, but more like; in the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"-sense). Lucas is not producing multi-million dollar home-movies for the sole benefit of entertaining his fucking kids; he is creating commercial works for sale to the public at-large.

I appreciate art and I'm more than willing to pay for it; but that fat bastard seems bound-and-determined to do ANYTHING to avoid selling me what I want to buy: the unmodified versions of Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi (or at least the pre-re-release of the first LD version), for no good goddammed reason. It makes no sense: it actually costs more to add all the crap I DON'T like or want.

If a Master Chef serves me something other than what I ordered, or complete garbage, am I obliged to eat it?

Of course not.

But the G-Lucas Honkey-Tonk Drive-In doesn't sell what you want to eat in the first place - they used too of course - but why do you keep coming back? It's clear they have no intent to ever put what you want on the menu.

I have.

I don't own any version of any of the prequels. I don't even have any of the re-releases. All I have are the (very worn) 86' VHS tapes of "Star Wars: a New Hope" and "Return of the Jedi" and the 92' VHS version of "The Empire Strikes Back" (I'm not hardcore enough to have the LDs, despite owning a PIONEER LASERDISC PLAYER, with PIONEER LASERDISC PLAYER FEET).

I love Star Wars and even I don't particularly want him or anyone else to make any more installments. I watched all the prequels opening day, bought the dvds, but somewhere along the way, I guess I hit the point where I don't need more. I see the billboards all over town advertising Episode 1 coming to theaters in 3D, and... I don't have the problem with Ep 1 that a lot of you do... or at least not to the level you do... but I still have zero interest in seeing some forced stereoscopic monstrosity. I won't be going. And that feels weird to say, with as big a part of my childhood as Star Wars was.

But I don't see it as a "bitch move" to say he won't make more. I think the vast majority of the world, including a ton of Star Wars fans, probably agree he SHOULDN'T make more.

And by the way, Yagami, please don't ever post anything from Mad TV again. There is no fucking call for that.
