I think what he is trying to say is
He got a free Jaguar as a 15 year old from Telegames. At that time most games were super cheap . Buying them on eBay USA. Going to the bank asking for 12 dollar. Having to wait a week before being able to pick up the cash and physically ship it to the USA. Then waiting for weeks before the game turned up in an envelope with the box all squashed. He enjoyed Iron Soldier, Pitfall,Doom and Cannon Fodder and Tempest 2k. With the boys we only ever Brutal Sports football. (Which a buddy of mine bought on a school trip to London for the insane amount of 3
Quid in CEX.). The last game he got was Alien vs Predator locally through a newspaper ad. It was 25 euros and he had to bicycle for like an hour and half to go pick it up. Then in 1999 or 2000 he got a free PSX from a friend, he told me it didn’t read discs anymore. It was full of dog hair from their Golden Retriever. After cleaning it up it worked just fine, still my PlayStation to this day. So the jaguar was left untouched until 2025. He got some games trough the years but never bothered to fire it up again.

It was worth starting an Atari Jaguar collection when this thread was originally posted in 2017 so you could sell it to a megagoob in 2025.

Why does it not surprise me that you have a Jaguar.

A Jaguar controller will probably be worth more in 2025 than I spent on my entire collection.
I'll be rich 💰💰

Just too lazy to sell and deal with ya goobs! :ninja:

So sorry, not AI just a retard. And basically not able to write decently in my own language what should I expect in another language.
Whilst writing it all seems pretty readable in my head. But when I reread the next day I'm thinking oh lordy..

no, he's just fat and retarded.
I think Smokey and Xavier are just lazy.

Some days they are legit typing their responses.

Other, they're letting FagGPT do the work while they're doing meth.

Alright, I see this topic come up every now and then, and I’m here to do a public service announcement for anyone even considering starting an Atari Jaguar collection: DON’T. JUST DON’T.

Look, I get it. The Jaguar has that "so bad it’s good" mystique. It’s an oddity, a weird blip in gaming history, and it’s tempting to dive into collecting something different. But let me hit you with a few reality checks before you start throwing money at this dumpster fire.

1. The Library is a Hot Pile of Trash

Outside of Tempest 2000 (which, let’s be honest, you can play a million other ways) and maybe Rayman if you’re desperate, the Jaguar’s library is a wasteland. You ever play Checkered Flag? It makes Virtual Boy racing games feel smooth. Club Drive looks like a toddler's first attempt at 3D graphics. And let’s not even mention Kasumi Ninja unless you enjoy fighting games where your character moves like they're knee-deep in wet cement.

2. That Controller is an Ergonomic Disaster

Who designed this thing? Why does a controller need a full numpad? You ever try pressing the wrong button in Alien vs. Predator because you're fumbling around like you're dialing a rotary phone? And don't even think about getting a replacement if yours breaks—good luck finding one that hasn’t been abused by the last owner trying to make Fight for Life work.

3. The Console is Expensive and Unreliable

You wanna drop hundreds on a machine that’s basically an empty shell with a Motorola 68000? Be my guest. Jaguars are notorious for bad cartridge connections, and unless you enjoy cleaning contacts every time you want to play Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales, you’re in for a world of pain.

4. The CD Add-on is an Even Bigger Joke

Oh, you think getting a Jag is bad? Wait until you feel the itch to get the Jaguar CD. Hope you like paying a small fortune for an add-on that looks like a toilet seat and barely works. The only thing rarer than a working unit is a good game for it.

5. Prices are Stupidly Inflated

Jaguar prices have skyrocketed because of "nostalgia" or whatever, but there’s no actual demand. It’s just low supply driving up prices for an objectively terrible system. Want Battlesphere? Better be ready to sell a kidney. Want Primal Rage? That’s a cool $300 for an unfinished port that runs worse than the 16-bit versions.

Final Thoughts

If you want a quirky, failed console to collect, go get a 3DO or a Virtual Boy. At least those had some decent games and are fun to mess with. The Jaguar is just a bad console with bad games and a bad controller, and collecting for it is an exercise in masochism.

If you still want to collect for it, I can’t stop you, but don’t come crying to me when you realize you spent $1,000 just to own a copy of Towers II, you stupid fagit.

So I’ve got this new “retro game store” by me now and I’ve been fixating on the Atari Jaguar. From what I can tell there’s less than 20 exclusives for the system so I could only go for the exclusive titles. But I’ve never played one. Anyone here super fucking amped about playing Jaguar? Is it worth dropping around $200 on? I’d love to hear both sides. Weighing my pros and cons here.
Just emulate it you writhing homosexual

I just checked Jaguar system prices on ebay and I am shocked. I had guessed about $80 for a loose gamer condition console with a controller, but no. $500+ ! That's what the Jaguar CD is supposed to cost; not the base console. Amazing!

Telegames had a massive stock of unwanted Jaguars they wanted to get rid of bad, and since it hardly sold it was cheap for basically forever for what, a good 20 years until they finally ran out of stock. No cheap stock? Goober manipulation runs free and suddenly it's a hot, $500 item.

I don't even get mad about this stuff anymore, let these stupid motherfuckers believe a Jagwire is worth that much and finance someone's daughter's tuition fees. Whatever.

Say’s a lot when you need to break down to people why collecting garbage is a bad idea. LONG LIVE EMULATION!
