Video is from a year ago. Thread is like 4yrs old.

So what the fuck?
I had to finish a game on another platform in the last year.

Now I am back to Hyperblaster (what the game is called now, so maybe could a mod change the thread title? ), and in the meantime I made a few decisions. Like, It will only release for Neo Geo and not on Amiga or Megadrive, and I want to use the NGs unique capabilities a lot, like sprite scaling, background animations, multiple palettes per layer, memory card saves, etc...

I definitely want to create a game that would not be possible on an Amiga, Megadrive or SNES, and I think I have the skills and an engine capable to do that now. Game will be completely done in M68k assembler and my own custom Neo Geo engine.

Anyway, thanks for your interest and updating this thread here, mates...
Much appreciated... <3

What is the planned or estimated release date for the game? Just curious. The game looks pretty unique for Neo Geo standards, IMO.
Difficult to say. I am usually wrong with my time estimates.. :D
I hope to be finished around mid of next year.

The basic skeleton of the game is there. Most level graphics are done, and they can be run through from start screen to game over. Enemies and Bosses are missing in 4 of 6 levels so far.

Plus, I want more eye candy in all of the levels. With the additional stuff my engine can do now, I want to rework most of what I have created so far to have animations, more colors, etc.

Maybe I missed it, but have you mentioned what sort of release you're looking to do for your game? I know you mentioned digital and boxed release for the Amiga version.

Really digging the artwork in this scene :)

What is the reason for the Amiga version being shelved?
so many reasons...
First off, and fhe biggest reason of them all, the Amiga version was holding back the Neo Geo version.

I planned to use the same assets for both versions. But that would have meant no background animations, no palettes per tile, no sprite scaling, and almost all enemies using the same palette as the foreground.

Also, I spent the last ten years doing stuff for the Amiga and I feel, technically, I have achieved everything what one can do on OCS. And AGA (Amiga 1200 and above) has a few design flaws I really don't like.

You'd need to use a vastly accelerated Amiga to get the same results as on the Neo Geo. But then you'd use the Amiga as just some kind of lame frame buffer, and not its chipset anymore.

So I decided to have fun instead and try to get as much out of the Neo Geo as I can.

Looks great!

Did you change the ship or are there multiple ships to choose from? Or maybe a power up that changes the looks slightly? Either way, I like both ships and your backgrounds and level details look great!

Yep, it's a new ship.
Maybe I will include a few different ships into the game. Not sure yet.. Wanna get the basic game finished before I get into the nice to haves... :)

Thanks for the kind words, mate.

First off, I will be concentrating on the Module versions.
If the sales are any good, I might consider creating a CD version. ;)
I think he copy/pastes that to any upcoming AES/MVS development.
