Interesting New AES-Style Consolized MV-1B on Aliexpress

I think at this point only I care about this ole POS, especially with the AES+ around the block.

But...! It seems like you can use the same setup (shell, jamma board) with a legit MV-1C instead of the jank ass 1B boards these things have, which is definitely welcome. I was browsing aliexpress out of curiosity and found this dude advertising a kit for 1Cs.

I don't understand how this could possibly work (it raises the cartridge slot, is there enough clearance?), but it does look exactly like my kit aside from some minor PCB component changes. Like there's no MV1C stereo audio plug on mine like on the last picture. I bought a MV1C yesterday so I'll try it out and report back. Removing the heatsink from the voltage regulator is not ideal but its not too bad if you don't intend to keep this on from 9 to 5 like an actual coin-op, I guess.

(now we only need a mod to make the component out in this thing not garbage. keke)

That's crazy that they just want you to remove or bend down a capacitor, take the heatsink off of the MOSFET, and remove the backup battery

Especially that capacitor... it isn't there just for show. Taking the heatsink off and putting the board in a more enclosed space is going to shorten it's life too.

Removing the heat sink is standard for consolizing an MV1C. That's because the heat sink is used by the board's mono amplifier. You're going to mod it for 5v and line level stereo, so it won't be used.

Ah, makes sense. I'm assuming the cap has something to do with the audio circuit then too?

Not sure which cap you mean, but you can remove nearly every electrolytic capacitor from an MV1C if you 5v and stereo mod it. I believe the full mod only leaves 2 or 3 of them on the board.

I knew because I've consolized an MV1C before. Why were you messing with the MV1C, by the way? If I had one of these, the MV1B is one of the things I would get it for, since it avoids the two issues the 1C has.

I thought I'd get the board to mess around really, the 1b in it is actually not that bad but there's a ton of mystery fixes in that which don't seem easy to figure out if they fail. Would be nice to have a properly maintained quick replacement around.

So the design fits both a 1B or 1C? I thought maybe you had to order separate kits that fit each.

That's what I'm gonna find out! Though IDK if I want to bother even testing it, lol. I just posted this for people finding this thread who might want to try.

I just checked the cartridge slot clearance out of curiosity and it seems that it might work? From the pictures posted it seems like the kit is identical.

Yeah I was looking at the third board photo where it said "capacitor removal or press picture fall down" lol

That's why I assumed that it had something to do with the audio circuit as well.
