I was thinking about how a new generation of Neo-Geo Pocket Color would kick ass. (Of course, Nintendo would probably bury it by sheer force of inertia, but I digress :p ) But how would they go about it? I would probably make it a lot like the original, except with a more powerful CPU and graphics hardware, four face buttons (more like a NGCD controller) and maybe a select button (so that the start button can be used for taunts). In short, I guess I'm asking for a portable NGH/MVS. How about you? What would all of you folks want in a new NGPC?

I would just be happy if my current NGPC was still supported officially...

But, hell yeah, I'll play.

If someone were to update the NGPC[1], this is Things I really want in a handheld:

1. Backlight
2. Portrait/Landscape modes
3. Built in PC-Link
4. Lot's of buttons (Four face buttons + shoulder buttons)
5. Analogue Joystick

For now though, I alternate between the Wonderswan and my trusty old NGPC.

Cheers
Chris

 I didn't get that...

Four face buttons are fine. I was very disappointed with GBA , too, because it had only 2 face buttons...

I think the Neo Poke does very well with just its two buttons. I would prefer not to mess with that since the Neo Poke is by far the most comfortable portable system ever released and changing the button layout and especially adding shoulder buttons might affect that for the worse. And I definitely prefer the clicky stick to an analogue stick or a crosspad. Really I don't think anything about the design of the system needs to be changed actually.

A backlight would have to be a must. Can't understand why companies keep making systems without a backlight. <img src="graemlins/ohno.gif" border="0" alt="[Oh No]" />

id say have a switch on the side to turn back-light on and off {becuase it isnt needed at all times and when you have it turned off it could save battery power} and id like to think adding 2 more face buttons would make it better but thats not a must for me

Exactly the same screen as the NGPC, it doesn't need a backlight. Do you guys live in caves??

No shoulder buttons, I'd prefer to keep the slightly square shape of the NGPC than make it curvier and put shoulder buttons on. Besides fighting games suck when you have to use shoulder buttons. So maybe an extra 2 face buttons..

Keep the NGPC joypad/stick!! It's the best dpad ever, I tried a GP32 at the ECTS and was tempted to buy one mainly because of the NGPC style pad. It felt like playing a NGPC :)

Basically keep the console as it is. But maybe make it slightly bigger and have a GP32 size screen.

In terms of performance the NGPC was hurt alot by legacy support :( 2 bits per pixel, 4 color palette per obj etc. It would be cool to increase that, 8 bits/256 colors would be plenty I think :) Hardware scrolling and rotation would be nice. Maybe swap the TLCS-900H for something a bit faster.
