I was completely shocked to find out it was SNK that published Capcom's first ever game

...in North America

Let that sink in for a moment... SNK was the publisher of noob Capcom's first ever game in the North American market.

Looking at today, it's just...

Seriously, what the fuck happened???

(Though, I guess part of that question would be rhetorical)

Huh, interesting... but definitely not mind blowing. Never seen that version of the SNK logo before though (on the flyer).

David G scrawled it on a napkin one day while he was out to lunch with E. Kawasaki. They decided to run with it.

This should be SNKPs new motto....since "The Future is Now" hardly applies to them anymore.

It's weird.

SNK is the older and more established company. Yet, Everyone is talking about Capcom's "long and storied history" and about celebrating its 30th anniversary, and how Capcom has come a long way as a 'giant' in the industry.

Meanwhile, people are going "WTF is a 'snick'?"

snk more established than capcom? I know this is neo-geo.com and I love snk as much as the next guy (probably way more than the next guy) but lets get into reality here.

Well basically, what I meant is that SNK had been around and had a presence in the industry longer.

This was a surprise to you? Common game knowledge to me.

Back in the good old days of video games, many game releases were handled by different companies. Midway and Atari released the majority of Namco games, Romstar did Capcom AND SNK as well as Taito and many of Konami's early games were by Stern and Sega.

Taito and Centuri did a lot of SNK's first games. Vanguard was published in the states from Centuri and Taito published Zarzon/Satan of Saturn. Has anybody ever seen Vanguard 2? I was looking on KLOV to see if I had my facts right about the publishers and they show an American style arcade cab of Vanguard II that has it published by SNK on it. I've only played the first one.

I've played it when it was out and it was absolutely nothing like Vanguard 1. The gameplay was almost exactly the same as another game that had come out at the same time...Time Pilot 84. While the Vanguard 2 graphics were much better, TP84 was the easier of the two.

Or the Intellivision version of Nintendo's Donkey Kong, published and developed by Coleco.

Imagine that today. A Donkey Kong game developed by Sony for the Xbox 360 would be the modern equivalent.

Capcom also asked Squaresoft to release their first SNES RPG Breath of Fire in the US.
