You know who's good to get started with? Any KOF version of Terry, because of his 2-hit standing C. Also, he has several different specials with different joystick motions (qcfs, qcbs, hcfs), so you can mess around with the different ones.

To start out with, just walk up to the CPU (or a dummy, or practice, or whatever), do a close standing C, then mash out a special move. Practice a bit and you'll get the timing down.

After that, you might want to move onto Mai and her infamous low C -> qcb + P combo. For whatever reason, when I was first learning to do combos (seems like ages ago) I always found that qcb moves were easier to cancel from normal moves than qcf moves.

From there, you should move on to charge moves; Leona's low C -> Moon Slasher and KOF '94/95 Heidern's low B -> Moon Slasher are good for that.

Oh God, I suck at combos as well. But, I can push the hell out of those black buttons.

Do the Terry combos work in MOTW as well ?

Ugh, no. Terry's standing C is only a 1-hitter in MOTW (he has a C, fwd C chain, but you can't combo further from that). MOTW is easy to get into, but KOF veterans love it since it uses a lot of the same kinds of combos and tactics of the later KOFs (like partially buffering special moves, dash-in specials/DMs, etc.). I'd suggest you stick with KOFs (especially '95) to practice combo timing...

SS1 and SS2 are also pretty good for practice.

I hadn't thought of Clark. I will give him a try. Going to buy Last Blade 2 to work on the "speed/skill" mode also.

Thanks for the tips everyone...

hmm, about combos, last blade 2 does help, and so is garou. i LOVE setsuna and washizuka. 98 and 00 are 2 of the most comboable game for kof.

Game that rocks my world, and helps me get down my combos skills: MOTW. Jae and Dong have 2 hit close Cs and Ds that can be comboed, and everyone has breakables that set them up for combos. Plus Jae's hop back-forward kick is a combo starter that allows me to play havoc with an opponent.
