I haven't played a game in over 2 months

I was at the point where I just got sick of playing games so I packed up what little gaming stuff I have left and stuck it in the closet. I did this 2 months ago in hopes that the "urge" would someday return, but it hasn't.

I kind of feel better now that I'm not worrying about building up a collection and whatnot, but at the same time I'm disappointed with myself because games have always been the way I kick back and take it easy. Is this a normal faze of gaming?

Normal.

Nothing to worry about. You'll most likely come back around. You can only really get into a limited number of things at any given point in your life. Surely you have other interests at the moment.

It's happened to me at least twice. One time I was surrounded by hundreds of games, but I never played anything for more than a few minutes. Just take a break, and get into something else for awhile. After a few months you will probably be ready to get back into it. If not, you won't care anyway.

good for you. in alot of ways games are worse for you then drugs. so it's good to kick the habit every now and then.

Just don't do anything too crazy during your little "break", like getting a life or something. Seriously, they suck.

Yeah I went through this, but have recently got back into just a few categeorys. Arcade gaming only really, nothing else, have I really enjoyed lately.

The ones that are the best for me, fighters, and shooters!

Otherwise, I still kind of fall into this "Gaming Drepression"

I'm glad to see this is a fairly common occurrence in gaming. I'm gonna go ahead and stick it out for a few more months and see how things turn out for me. I've recently gotten more into my horror collecting hobby with original posters from the 70's/80's, props, action figures, etc. I'm still looking for the Freddy Spit Balls and a brand new Nightmare On Elm Street board game. :)

You know Earthquake...I'm having the exact same problem...I might just do the same thing and just give it a rest

It wouldn't hurt to try bro. :)

I guess that old saying is true, too much of anything is never a good thing. Even with video games. :(

I'm going through this stage too. I have not been posting much, and never really play games at all currently. Other things are just more interesting in life for me right now; College, Cars, Women. These three things leave little time for games. However, I am sure that in a few months on a rainy day I will pop in Super Metroid and my gaming love will be sparked up again.

I am going through the same thing. Although I still play, I only play a couple games, and I don't even play them that often.

I plan to limit my game buying to about one a month, if that.

I have been going through this recently myself. As a matter of fact, my cold streak just ended. I hadnt played a game at home since March of 2003. All I did was play DDR in the arcade, and now I am just starting to play again. It makes the games so much more fresh and appealing to me.

Im glad I took a break. I needed it to renew my love I think ^_^

Except for Wind Waker and Vice City, I haven't played a game in a year now. I played those two all the way through in about a week each, but other than that, the only time I've played games is when I was forced to for my job (as a video game tester) where I played crap all day long.

I did this before a while ago where I didn't play for two years, then came back full force. I'm done for a while. Nothing interests me right now (or down the road).

If Super Metroid doesn't do it - then you know it's all over.

But yeah, after the DC - I went through a non-video game playing phase for about 2-3 years. One day, I just got bored and went out and picked up a GC. From that point on, I've gotten back into the gaming scene pretty heavy. I'm sure I'll grow tired of it again for another period, but I won't be throwing any of this stuff away :).

It's not at all uncommon for interests to run in a cyclical fasion, especially if your life is going through periods of dramatic change or if you find yourself bogged down with a large workload.

For me, they lifestyle change(s) brought on by college killed my interest in certain types of games (RPGs, extremely time consuming genres, etc.) and bolstered my interest in others (competitive PC FPS games like Q3A and UT2k3, arcade-style gaming). So while I retained my interest in Neo-Geo games and developed an affinity for PC games that can give me a quick gaming fix, I'd now be hard pressed to get into an RPG or other similiar title, if for no other reason than the kind of time needed to appreciate those types of games.
