I have spent a little time today and written a program that can be programmed onto EPROM and used to test if a CPS-2 game has suicided. For more information and to download visit www.cps2shock.com.

Cool idea, if any of my CPS2 boards quit working, I'll be sure to try this out.

What happens if you place the rom in a fully functional cps2 game?

cheers,

Basicaly the game simply won't boot. It won't cause any damage though as long as you don't damage the P.C.B in the process.

So basically what this does is test the board for functioning status after it has suicided, not tell you whether or not the board has suicided?

I think if a system won't boot, you put this eprom in there to see if it's got problems other than the suicide batt.

Thats right. Basically if you see something you know the board has suicided.

Is there not some way that the ROM can be left in the board the whole time and allow the game to boot. Then when it does suicide the program will become active? That'd be great stuff indeed.

Any chance of a Unibios style CPS-2 affair?

Also can one of these new chips be ordered Unibios style? I could prolly use one

This is not possible, well it is possible but the HW mod needed to do it just dosent make sence to do.

Just a quick mention that I have updated the included readme with the CPS2 Suicide Tester I released a couple of days ago. The actual program remains the same though.
