...and I didn't even play it myself, I just watched one of my friends play it for about one hour, then all of a sudden I felt a weird numbness in my face and got physically sick up to a point where I had to ask my buddy to stop playing that shaky game. It took me about 30 mins. before my head cleared up again and the sickness was gone.

Anyone had the same problem before? It only seems to happen with certain games like Half Life 2, I've never seen a game with such incredibly jerky scrolling since the PSX days... crap like that shouldn't really be released IMO.

Ah well... played KoF NW yesterday without the slightest problem, thank god for that. :)

That sounds pretty intense...

I have an equilibrium problem and get pretty dizzy quite often. And one time, me and my buddy were playing Blazing Star on his cab and we were getting towards the end of the game. Then there's that part where you go like sideways into the background and man, that made me so sick. I had to have him pause it (thank you unibios) and take a breather... I felt lame, hahaha.

Anyone remember the rotating room (the cylindrical one) from Super Castlevania 4?

That one used to make me queasy. Probably because I would sit there and stare at it since the effect was so badass at the time.

surprisingly enough i have felt similarly, though not as intense, when watching other people play fps games. it's not ever an issue when i'm actually playing myself, however. weird stuff.

Interesting links.

The HL2 forum mentioned in the first link even has a list of variables to change for ppl who become motion sick when playing FPS games.

Guess the stop-and-go scrolling of HL2 plays a role here as well.

Thing is, this never happend to me before. I've played Doom, Quake!, Duke Nukem or Q3A until my fingers started to bleed but I never got motion sick.

Ah well, guess I need more sleep.

I remember it. R-Type III as well. The end of the first level rotates and that still kinda makes me feel ill.

first time it happened to me was with Turok on the N64. it felt like someone had taken a golf club to my eyes. it was horrible.
so I stopped playing that. it wasn't motion sickness in the way you get from being on a ship, although partially yes, but more.
another damn game I wish I could play but can't is F-Zero GX. I'm a big fan of the series, but the game just makes me feel too ill after a while.
PSP made me feel this way from playing certain games.

Doom 3 on the PC and Burnout Revenge on Xbox are the only two games to ever make me feel dizzy/sick.

Wild Arms on the psx used to give me a headache when playing it for a few hours. Happened every time.

I have it all the time.

FPS + TV = headache

no problem playing them on PC.

there are also other games like Silent Hill 3. same happened while playing RE4 too. it was so bad so that I thought about not playing it ever again, but I got used to it after a while (I think it has something to do with the stages layout, because early stages had norrow passages).

never got sick from video games, but back in the day (~1994) my dad always got mad when we played Baseball stars 2 on our AES - he thought all the flashes in the game would induce epilepsy! lol.

BTW WTF is going on in your sig gamejunkie?

The reason for the sickness is the realistic "gun bounce" you see from the first person view. A friend of mine had the same problem, but it could be fixed on the PC version by turning off the gun bounce/bob. The problem occurs because of focusing so intensly on the screen, your eyes get the sense of you "stepping/moving" but you're body in real life is actually still, causing some pretty serious motion sickness problems for a select few people. There is no way to turn the bounce off in the Xbox verision?

A first-person perspective game can induce motion sickness if it's too 'smooth'. I get nauseated after half an hour of the original Half-Life on PC, but I can play something like Quake or Counter-Strike for hours without a problem.

Given all the people who felt like vomiting after playing the original HL for too long, I'm not surprised HL2 has the exact same issues.

If you really want to get sick, try playing Wizardry 8 (PC) for more than 15 minutes.

I see, but why can I play Q3A and other (older) FPS games for hours without problems while HL2 makes me sick after less than 10 mins.? Q3A, Quake!, they all have the weapon bounce and it never was a prob for me until I've played that damn Half Assed 2.... haven't checked if the weapon bounce can be eactivated in HL2 Xbox, will give it a try just to make sure.

It's not weapon bounce. It's the way the first-person camera relays the environment. Try playing Counter-Strike and Half-Life one after another, and you'll easily be able to tell that the perspectives are very different.

This happens to me sometimes, but usually only in console FPS and then only when the controls are jerky.

All FPS games make me physically ill to play. It doesn't matter whether on PC, or TV. The only one I can play for any amount of time, with out feeling too sick, is the original Halo.

I don't anything to contribute to this thread but felt it was my civic duty to post

you'd know all about jerking controls now wouldn't you?

I've never had a problem like this

then again, I'm not into FPS

which is where the bulk of these complaints seem to stem from
