Just my two cents, but having skated quite a bit as a kid, here's my impression...

Ideally you'd have a larger space. My local shop was just as much a place to hang out as it was a place to buy parts, clothes, and tapes. And I'm sure a lot of those kids hanging around sitting on a rotted out couch watching videos all day turned into sales / loyalty.

You'll need a really eye-catching sign and wall decal to get foot traffic in such a small place, too.

Are you getting in decks from other brands? If you're only selling your own decks, you'll need better designs.

Any way you could set up at the skate park as well maybe on the weekends? Sell wax, stickers, snacks, and water.

This was essentially started three years ago
I am an artist, the whole scene is about bad art right now so I figured simplicity. The jaded writing with the blue background in red is BAKER design inspired by black flag, its literally the hottest board in the world.

I get the hanging at the store vibe but ya its not 2005. Also my rent is absurdly low so its more of I can I expand later and survive now type of deal. You may not know but boards that you buy from companies are 25-40 with 90% being 34-40. Its a fifteen dollar market up, less once shipping is applied. Shop decks are also in the mid 20s price range. I get Canadian maple, made in America with skate glue resign, Cold pressed. They are literally nicer than most pro models made in Mexico and China.

Mp me if you need help with picking the right plan/ setup. Windy has been there for 6 years now and I just launched my new shop there a couple months back. I'm pretty experienced with them.
Ya I need to figure out the pos inside the store and how to do credit cards. Im gonna watch a video on it tonight I think.

If you have access to old skate tapes and can copy VHS there is a pretty large retro market for that stuff that wouldn't cost you jack.
I somehow didn't no this was a thing. Do they copy them on VHS to DVD or VHS?

This is the newest batch its pretty awesome

VHS - VHS

The old Damage, Adrenalin, Real, SC, AW, WI, Hook Ups, Girl etc. The mid 90s stuff seem to be popular when the teams were getting pretty wild with the stuff they filed but still concentrated on skating for the most part.

Good luck with your shop! I still occasionally see teens skateboarding on the streets in my neck of the woods, but, it definitely isn't as popular here as it used to be (our long winters probably don't help either).

When I was a kid I had a Tony Hawk that I found in a gutter. Seriously. It was in a drain abandoned (I was only in the gutter because I was training to be a ninja).

Master Splinter still laments that you gave up your ninjutsu training to pursue skateboarding; you really had potential. Shredder dodged a bullet there.

Good luck with your shop.

Do you know of any good inline shops?

how good do we need to be to get a free deck and some sets of wheels?

I think we should only have to like ollie a deck because we are so old.

Just got all the tax authority license, bank account for tax, DBA and website stuff done this week. A ton of stuff goes into a business, even a small one.

Just make sure you have a CRT with Skate or Die 3 playing at all times. The best NES game will get you through hard times.

So I measured the shop today and its 7 1/4 x 14 1/2 feet. Small real small almost like a kiosk skate shop. I decided to go with shopify and have been entering my inventory. Kind of time consuming but it is what it is.

If you know who the local rippers are it might be worth it to sponsor them and just throw them decks, I used to show love for whoever gave me decks when I was a youngster and flash the logo at any contests I placed in and in video parts. Owning a shop is a tough business, good luck bro.
