If getting caught saying the n-word in private was the Hulkster's only transgression, you might be able to make that argument but dude brother jack had a decades-long history of being a pathological liar, a serial philanderer and a backstabbing corporate stooge. The vast majority of his contemporaries couldn't stand him and it had nothing to do with professional jealousy. The fact that he became a Trump ballwasher toward the end made perfect sense... they're like two narcissistic peas in a pod down to their embarrassing "tans".

People are intelligent enough to be able to acknowledge that Hulk Hogan the character made significant contributions to the worldwide popularity of pro wrestling while also loudly professing that Terry Bollea the man was a piece of shit.

I suspect Ric Flair's death will receive a similar response.

People tuned in to watch Hulk Hogan, not Dean Melenko. Wrestling is maybe 10-15% "in-ring chops".
I got into wrestling in part by watching Dean Malenko matches on Nitro while my dad tuned in for the NWO shenanigans back in the day :keke:

Oh, don't get me wrong. There is enjoyment in watching Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerroro and Dean Malenko...

...but, watching Scott Hall, The Rock, Shane Douglas or yeah, even The Hulkster on the mic is exponentially better.

The guys who can work the ring, the mic, good persona and a good look - those are the transformative "entertainers" and Hulk for what he lacked in technical he made up for with the other 3.

This kinda hits hard. He was the face of the WWF for many years.

That was actually the least worst.

His biggest was conspiring with Vince to prevent the WWF from unionizing. This allowed the WWF to blatantly exploit its workers for decades in terms of pay, time off, and especially health insurance (or lack thereof), forcing many of the mid/lower card folks to deal with chronic injuries using painkillers instead of treating them properly through surgery or other healthy means. Even some of the higher tier talent like Bobby The Brain Heenan had chronic injuries they couldn't afford to treat because the out-of-pocket cost for surgery was too high.

Thus, a good number of wrestlers become addicted to said painkillers and for some, eventually died from them. In a roundabout way, he's responsible for people dying.

He also sabotaged the careers of more than a few wrestlers because he absolutely refused to lose to them in matches when they were getting big pushes, and worked behind the scenes to push those he didn't like down the card.

He's also one massively huge liar and narcissist. Then, later on, became a flagrant MAGAt, which all things considered makes a lot of sense.

This stuff is all well documented through a ton of interviews posted on YT.

But, like you said, Hulk Hogan the character was legendary, and rightly so, forever will be. Terry Bolea, however, was a giant piece of shit.

Hogan's many, many lies range from the tragic to the downright hysterical.

I never really watched wrestling, but I always thought Hogan looked cool af and liked his gimmick. I will always be thankful to him for legally assraping Gawker. No I don't care that he told a bunch of ridiculous lies or said the nword, both of which I find funny. :buttduck:

Time to bring out the neon green violin and play one for the Hulkster, Ace.
